“Pizza not to be missed”

No matter which outlet you go to you will not be disappointed. I like "The Works"but whatever you prefer I am sure they have it.

“fantasitic BASIC Italian food, great with kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

The food at Filippis is always consistent and good. Pizzas are big on cheese and have a thicker crust. Lasagna is great especially with meatsauce, Antipasti Salad is not good, Overall a good choice for basic Italian food.

“Great pizza!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

Great pizza and salad. Large portions, great Italian setting, friendly service and good prices. It is in the back of the store and if you show up after 4 be prepared to wait in a fast moving line. They have more space than you think. The store is also neat. Walk by all the other fancy restaurants and pick Filippi's.

“A great non-NY pie”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

In case you haven't noticed, I am a bit of a pizza snob - being from NY and all.

I know, I know - pizza is one of those deals where everybody thinks that their hometown has the best, but truth is - New York has the best. Period. (Chicago is good stuff too, but it isn't real pizza, more of a "dinner").

So, why is all this important in this particular review, you may ask?

Simply put: Filippi's Pizza Grotto get's it done on the pie-front!

Their pizzas aren't EXACTLY like New York style, but they sure get close. Fantastic sauce, great moz, and a real tangy, tomatoey, Italian-spiced sauce that stands up with some of the best pies I have tried.

When I am in San Diego, and craving an authentic pie - this is my "go-to" place for pizza. No disrespect to California Pizza Kitchens, but authenticity is all that matters when it comes to pizza (Please keep your fusion-laced fru-fru pies to yourself!)

If I find any more great pizza places on my next trip out west next quarter, I will be sure and write it up. Until then: Manga manga with Filippi's Pizza Grotto!

“Best Italian food in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

Very casual, but busy because the food is awesome, prices very reasonable, service excellent. Eat at the one in Pacific Beach very
often. We walk to it.
