“What a flop”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

Forwarned is forearmed. So if you decide to brave the gauntlet (Emabassy Suites, La Jolla) just know this:
1) My wife mistakenly booked through their central reservation system (did not use agent or internet) and got a $325/night price on a cruddy room (will keep adjectives G rated)
2) When our friends mentioned their room rate ($175), I felt, well, less fortunate. But i thought pragmatism (Emabsyy Suite's) would rule the day as I set out for the front desk. So the conversation went, "Can you please look at my room rate?" "Mmm, very high room rate." (Not kidding, that's what the front desk said). "Can you make an adjustment? I can rebook right now through the internet and get $150 discount on the room I am in." "No, it is what it is." (I paraphrase their repsonse)
3) The rooms are barely woth $99/night. We received housekeeping exactly 1 time during our 3 night stay and that was after we harassed the front desk at 5:00 pm the day received our only "cleaning"
4) bathroom floor very hairy when we checked into our "luxury" suite." (Result of lazy housekeeping, I opine)
5) "free breakfast" chaos at 8 am. cold eggs, cold bacon, you get the idea
6) 3 Paul Blart mallcops patrolling the hotel all night/every night. Weird vibe. Why do they need 3 rental security guards haranguing kids for putting their toes in the hottub or being too loud at 8:00 pm?
7) Imagine this: The lyrics sung by the Inn Keeper in Les Mis...."Charging the guest for a little of this and a little of that" Parking extra, internet extra.....
8) front desk...a line, 4 deep all day every day
9) This may be piling on, but the "free happy hour," what a treat. watery cocktails and chips and canned salsa.

Some of our group left a night early and checked into the Hyatt, better room, better rate. I should have done the same, but didn't, shame on me. Do your homework and investgate all the options; there are a plethora of options within a mile radius. And if Karma deals you the Emabassy Suites card. Throw back into the pile and "go fish" for something else, anything else.

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend and had a great time. The location was great for us and my husband really liked the fitness room. Due to the holiday, it was quite busy probably sold out but I didn't feel cramped. The housekeeping staff was great and we will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in one of their two bedroom (king and sleeper sofa bed) suites. Even with two children, my wife and I found that the room was spacious and offered all the conveniences we needed, including a separate dining area and a lockable door between the bedroom and great room. Indoor pool is small but functional and worked well for us. Location placed us in the middle of our destinations which included Legoland and San Diego Zoo. Had no issues parking as the hotel has a separate parking garage next door.
We would definitely use this hotel again for our next visit.

Room Tip: Top floors offer a fun glass elevator ride for the kids. We had a corner room, which was quiet.

Even though we only stayed one night in La Jolla, we were able to relax in our room at Embassy Suites. Had dinner at PF Changs across the parking lot. Nice atmosphere. Very comfy beds and pillows. There were a million kids there (soccer tournament) but since I am a mom, it didn't bother me that much to have them running around. We had to checkout before the breakfast, but it's always good there.
Price of the room was extremely high, but there weren't a lot of options since ComicCon was in town when we were in the San Diego area.
Always recommend Embassy Suites!

My family and I stayed three nights at Embassy's La Jolla location. It's your standard set up for this hotel with the free breakfast, manager's reception, indoor pool, etc. Unlike some I've stayed at, this one seemed to be occupied by mostly families which is fine but business travelers might want to shop around. Beyond what most other reviewers are reporting, this is what I have to add or request of the hotel:

1. Never understood why every Embassy location charges $11 per day for internet. Even a wired connection cost the same rate. Travelers should factor that into a price comparison with other hotels.
2. Parking is $20 per day extra. As busy as this place was, I have no idea if street parking is really an option. I couldn't imagine hauling luggage any further than the paid garage. I opted for the convenience of having the car nearby.
3. The room we had was getting pretty worn based on mold in shower, damaged tile and depleted carpet.
4. Free use of laundry machines was a surprise and plus.
5. The staff was generally pretty good, particularly the ones working the breakfast area which was hectic and chaotic at times.

1. $20.00 parking fee for an out of town hotel, ridiculous;

2. we reserved a non-smoking room an ended in a room with a strong cigarette odor and had to stay on it because the place was sold out; and,

3. they sell two room suites which are not real two room suites; they are a room with an area with a sofa bed and just one bathroom.

Aside from that, the place looks wonderful. They serve a pretty good complimentary breakfast.

This hotel was the most family friendly and excellent value in California. The breakfasts every morning were the best and all family members found much to love. The suites were clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and attentive. Then to top it off a nightly happy hour. The kids swam daily and also enjoyed fun non alcoholic drinks. From now on I will never stay anywhere besides an Embassy Suite hotel. Great job to them and they helped make our Calif. trip wonderful!
