The location is awesome because of the great restaurants that the shuttle is happy to take you to! The boys at the front desk and the shuttle driver were OUTSTANDING with restaurant recommendations and friendliness. Pizza Bella (OMG lasagna) and Miguel's (Mexican - try the Sangria!) top the list for dinner.
The only negative was the gym. I wish there were free weights. However, the air freshener that sprays every 15 minutes has GOT to have a new scent. It smelled like men's cologne every 15 minutes. Not the smell you want when you're trying to work out on the treadmill in a small space. I'd rather have no scent than that! It was gross.
Breakfast was acceptable, but nothing special. I wish there were oatmeal packets.
I could definitely hear road noise, but it did not keep me up at night and I would consider myself a light sleeper. But I did hear the trash truck before the alarm went off one morning.

Pros: shuttle service to airport, old town, trains etc The staff really try hard to meet your shuttle needs, but they are often overworked and understaffed. They still are cordial and try ther very best especially Josh and Ryan. 20 minute easy walk to Old Town. Breakfast was HI typical~ good quantities

Cons: hotel was clean but in need of major updating- very tired. Ask for a room on Hancock side to avoid overlooking the expressway. Hot tub [located in front of hotel entrance] was chlorine strong~ bleached out our swim suits.
This is a very busy hotel, probably because of shuttle service and price. Many families here for every Friday Marine graduation ceremonies. On our returntrip we elected to stay at the Fairfield Marriott, MUCH nicer and modern hotel for a similar price- and closer to Old Town. Would highly recommend the Fairfield- much better value

Room Tip: The only choice is Hancock St or overlooking the freeway

We have always found it hard to find a good place to stay in San Diego that is convenient to area attractions and moderate in price but still a welcoming place to stay. There are very nice hotels, but they often come at a steep price and have amenities we won't use anyway. We will definitely return to this hotel. The rooms were very clean, nicely decorated and plenty spacious. There was no added parking fee. The complimentary breakfast was similar to other Holiday Inn Expresses and offered enough options that we both found something we liked. There was a lovely area with tables and umbrellas between the two wings of the hotel. It overlooked the bay, downtown and airport. The only distraction was it is right next the freeway so you could hear the cars. Our room faced the street (a residential neighborhood) and was very quiet. I can't say if a room facing the bay and downtown would be noisy from the freeway.
We stayed two nights and had no complaints.

We chose Holiday Inn Express because the brand never dissappoints. We loved being close to the Marine graduation site that we were in town for!! The hotel was in a nice central location with a complimentary shuttle that took us to Old Town... so convenient! Having a warm breakfast choice every morning was awesome!!!

Located just a few steps away from I-5, this hotel is a good choice If you happen to take a flight from San Diego airport of if you are just for a couple days to attend some event at downtown.

The hotel is very clean but isn't fresh new, rooms are nice and quiet, no problem with the traffic noise at all, just one issue windows do not have full courtains, just the transparent ones.

They have shuttle service to the airport and to many locations nearby, just reserve with some time ahead. Breakfast is standard holiday inn, so it is very good. The included wifi internet was very decent in our room.

Service was outstanding, from the people at the breakfast room to the roommaids, everybody did their best.

All in all this hotel offers a good deal at a good price.

Hotel is located right next to the interstate but it wasn't very noisy. The rooms were pretty decent and clean as was the bathroom. Parking is inside a secured garage. Complimentary breakfast (standard fare), Internet access in the lobby and located very near to Old Town. The bad part was that you couldn't black out the windows. All they had covering the windows were the white semi transparent drapes and nothing else. It's located in a neighborhood but nothing really nearby as far as restaurants (Old Town isn't too far but I wouldn't walk there at night). If you're looking for a place to crash as you're passing through San Diego or waiting for a flight out (located about ten minutes away from the airport) then it's not bad. Wouldn't stay here for an extended period of time.

We spent the night here on our way to and from Hawaii. We found this to be a very nice hotel. It had several shuttle vans and provided free transportation to/from the airport. There are not many restaurants nearby, but the driver offered to take us somewhere. Instead, we walked to the taco stand right down the street - it was really good. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: One tip - get a room away from the interstate side or one with double paned glass. Our room on the...
