We stayed in a suite in the tower in late March. 2 adults and 2 kids (4 and 6 years).

The beach access is excellent. The kids loved having the bay beach right there, and the ocean beach just a short walk away. I thought the kids would enjoy the Bay beach more, but it turns out that it's kind of mucky and jellyfishy when the tide is out. So they actually preferred the ocean beach. But the Catamaran has nice lounges and umbrellas on the Bay beach, so the adults preferred that.

The pool was warmer than I expected it to be. Nice, even on a cloudy not-so-warm day! The pool was plenty big enough for all the families there for Spring Break (no sign of the rowdy young adult crowd). Plentiful lounge chairs and towels. Nice large hot tub.

The landscaping is very nice and gives a tropical feel.

The building exteriors are aging, and could use a little sprucing up. The interior is dated, as many have mentioned. It's not super luxurious. But everything was clean and in good shape. Certainly not the dump that many reviews have made it out to be.

The "kitchenette" is the smallest "kitchenette" I've ever seen. And very sparsely stocked. 4 spoons, 4 cups, etc. And there was no real eating area -- just a counter top with two bar stools, and your standard hotel table with two chairs. So really not much of a "suite". But if all you really need is a refrigerator for your milk, a bowl and spoon for your cereal, and a microwave for your popcorn, it's fine.

We had a top-floor room of the tower, on the side away from the bay. It was a nice view from there. We could see the ocean, down to the Crystal Pier. But a lower room on the same side of the tower would have a view of the parking garage. If you're heading for the tower, ask for an upper floor.

I don't know why some people on here are rating this hotel so low. First of all, it is in a nice location, right across the street from the boardwalk of Pacific Beach and within walking distance of many restaurants. Our room was very clean, nice and the bed and bedding superior. Our room opened out onto the greenbelt area next to the bay- very nice view.
The lobby was gorgeous with a waterfall and koi fish in the pond. The grounds were also lovely, duck and swans in the water areas of the hotel. Pool and jacuzzi great.
We also had a couples massage in the spa there. Spa experience terrific.
I'd say either the people on here went to resort a long time ago or are awful picky. We loved it.

We were very happily surprised at how beautiful this hotel was after reading some of the negative reviews on this website. From the first minute of pulling into the beautiful driveway area with the waterfall and colorful flowers to the awesome lobby waterfall with great Polynesian decor, we were very impressed. The desk staff was helpful and pleasant and we were surprised with an upgrade to a tower studio which we really enjoyed with our family. Parking was very convenient although a little pricey. The interior gardens of the resort surrounding the tower are simply gorgeous and remind me of the Polynesian Resort at Disney World! All of the grounds and the buildings seemed well-kept and everything was very clean. The pool area is great with really nice covered chaise loungers. The only negative of our entire stay was that we could never get the high-speed internet connection in our room to work despite numerous cable swaps and a useless visit from the hotel engineer. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again!!!

my family of four stayed here booking a room thru hotels.com and we loved it.we had a room just outside the pool and it was quiet, clean, and well maintained, we thought the facility was kept up well and all the staff was very nice. we got a great price and it is accross the street from mission beach and they have their own lagoon beach and pool complex. iim glad we didnt stay on the beach cuz its alot noiser across the street and at nite the beach isnt suitable for little kids, although it was safe.the parking situation was great too: reasonable and in&out whenever you want. id like to stay in lajolla or somplace else if i go back, but id recommend this place to anyone who has a family or is looking for above avg reasonably priced accommadations.
