My husband, myself and our 2 yr old daughter statyed at the resort from Oct 12 until the 16th. Overall is was a very good experience. The staff were very friendly. There were just a few small negatives from our stay. The fact they charge for parking is really annoying. We only parked in their lot a day or two before we started parking around the corner from the resort for free on a residential street. It was worth saving $13.00 a day. And one thing I didn't understand was that they only put out like 8 beach chairs on the beach, and when we asked for more, they said it was first come first serve. Seemed really ridiculous considering the size of the resort, and the money we paid. Overall, the resort was in a great location. They gave us pamphlet with directions to the local attractions like Sea World (which is only like 10 minutes away). And the path by the beach lead us to a great little playground for my daughter to play. The views from the tower bay side were great. We loved that we could just walk out our door and go across the street to eat, or walk along the beach. My daughter especially liked the ducks, birds, and koi fish pond at the resort. We got a tower suite with a kitchen and separate living room, so that was great with a 2 yr old. Overall we enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again.

Didn't like the room when we checked in. 3rd floor of the Tower overlooking the multistorey hotel carpark. We pre paid €1500(yes euros) for 6 nights and felt it represented poor value. We upgraded for $75 dollars per night to a Bayside 1 bedroom apartment that had no dining facilities other than a coffee maker, sink and fridge, oh yes there were the 2 mugs of course. Staff were nice, housekeeping good. Food at Morays (bar/restaurant in the resort) was better value than expected and very tasty, and the waitress was excellent.

Loved the Catamaran. My partner and 2 stepsons (11 & 13) stayed for 2 nights in early October, and wished we'd been there longer.
We had a waterfront suite which had a lovely outlook of the harbour , jetty and watersports in front of the hotel.
We used the sofabed which was a little uncomfortable but not too bad.
We had dinner both nights from the light meals menu at the bar, which was great food. Probably the nicest we had in the 10 days we were in the States.
The free games Arcade was a real bonus to the boys, each night they would occupy themselves why we had a few drinks in the bar before dinner - perfect for everyone!
Very handy to Sea World, took a cab there, and that was easy.
We also hired bicycles one afternoon and had a lot of fun riding around area and over to Mission Beach.
Yes the Catamaran is showing its age, but it is clean, well kept and we will probably stay again if we return to San Diego.

My girlfriend and I spent a long weekend at The Catamaran the weekend of 09/18-22/08. The hotel upgraded our tower room from a Garden view to Bay View for free. The room was nice and provided a great place to retreat to everyday and truly relax after venturing out.

A high floor room in the hotel is nice since it keeps you above the noise of the ducks and birds (and people) on the grounds below. Sea World fireworks were done for the season while we were there but there was a boat race this same weekend and we got to see the fireworks for that from the balcony of our room.

The hotel grounds appeared to be the nicest part of the immediate area. We had a rental car and it was nice to be able to drive places (Point Loma, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, etc). Walking from the hotel around Pacific Beach at night was not as nice as we had hoped it would be.

We didn't eat at the restaraunt at the hotel, and in hindsight, should have since it appeared more upscale (and low-key) than the places we went to in Pacific Beach.

We opted for the self parking for $13/day and were able to get a low spot in the parking garage every day.

Complimentary tickets to the Bahia Belle cruise were nice as well. The first adult cruse (10PM) where you have to be 21+ to board was packed with a group from a wedding at the hotel so we waited and just went on the next one at 11 which wasn't as crowded.

Concierge was very helpful when giving us directions to the nearest mall so we could purchase a wedding gift.

Overall, the Catamaran was a great place for us to stay and we would definately stay there again anytime we are in the San Diego area.

We just stayed at this hotel for a weekend while we went to a wedding. The location is great- it is close to everything (short drive to Balboa park and the zoo, minutes from Sea world and Old Town). The lobby is beautiful. The service and check in was great. The woman at the front desk was very knowledgeable and friendly. We called ahead and asked if we could check in early because we were flying in the day of the wedding and needed to get ready and they had the room ready as soon as we got there, and they gave us a free upgrade with an amazing view of the beach.

We ate at one of the hotel restaurants the Atoll and the food was good and you get to sit outside with a view of the beach. The pool was nice, and the hotel grounds are beautiful (the parrots and koi ponds are great). You can rent kayaks, boats and paddle boats right on their beach and you can also rent segways and bikes to ride along the path by the beach.

From the hotel you can walk to many restaurants and there is a great breakfast place nearby called the Mission- very yummy, but get there early because it gets crowded.

The hotel has it's own parking garage and it was $13 per night. The beds were comfy and the room had a very large flat screen TV and we loved our balcony with the view of the bay.

We really enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to return!

My husband & I just returned from spending the weekend at the beautiful Catamaran resort hotel and spa. As we arrived we were surprised to see how beautiful it was as we entered the lobby we were greeted with a beautiful waterfall, flowers, and a pond with fish. The people were extremely friendly as they explained that they had upgraded our room. As we walked down the path to find our room which was located in the tower, we enjoyed the beauful flora and fauna that surrounded us. They even had two parrots that were talking, along with more ponds with fish and ducks. The pool has a really nice area with an oversized hot tub and really nice lounge chairs. Again the area is very beautiful and has an arcade and a pool bar. We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant but supposedly the food is very good, especially on Sunday when they have a Sunday Champagne brunch that costs about $40 a person, where you can sit outside above the beach which is on the bay. The hotel is in a perfect location because it sits on the bay where they have a whole bunch of things you can rent such as bikes to ocean toys and the water is a lot calmer with a more private beach. The Catamaran is located about 2 blocks away from Mission/Pacific Beach so it is perfect whether you want to go down to the hotel beach or walk over to the main Beach and surf or enjoy one of the restaurants. It also worked great for walking a few blocks down to the clubs at Pacific Beach at night. Our room itself was really nice and spacious with a small kitchen, and couch and had a nice TV. Overall we were extremely impressed and loved our stay at the Catamaran and we can't wait to go back!!

I too, like most reviewers, was a little nervous to stay here after reading all the reviews. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the lobby of the hotel. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a beautiful waterfall, pond, fish.. its so nice. We had a smooth check in.. got to our room, and again was impressed as I thought I was getting a standard king bed room. We had a suite with a couch, dining room table, full kitchen, and the bed was in a bedroom with a nice closet and bathroom. The kitchen was obviously outdated.. the applicances were 20+ years old.. good thing we were only staying for 2 nights. If I had to use this kitchen to prepare meals I would have been upset! Anyways, the bed was uncomfortable, the bedding was heavy and itchy, and the AC was in the living room, so it took HOURS of blasing the air on high to cool the bedroom. Most people complain about not being able to get hot water.. we however, could not get cold water for brushing our teeth or drinking. The floors and walls of the bathroom were a little dirty and I found a few small spiders on the floor. We were on the 4th floor in the tower so only had a partial view of the bay, but it was still something to look at. The restaurant was great.. very very pricey, but the food was awesome.. especially the breakfast buffet.

Overall, this is a nice joint. I would probably not stay again as it was very expensive. If they did a little cleaing and remodeling, this place would be 5 star, for sure! :)

One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements.
