“Wonderful Visit at the Catamaran”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

This is the second time I have been lucky enough to attend a work conference in San Diego located at the Catamaran Resort. It is always a pleasure. The amenities are wonderful. It's great to be so close to the bay and the ocean for after hours. The dining and bar options are great! I can't wait until my next visit!

Room Tip: Choose the bay view, if possible. Simply divine!

WOW!!! The brunch was amazing. We ( 6 ) ladies had a Sunday brunch outside facing the beautiful bay, it was wonderful. The buffet was excellent, but the service with Denise was the best.. She made sure we had all we needed and more…

A very nice place to stay and will most certainly stay there again our next visit to San Diego. A very big Thank You to Janine,Nicole,Rachel and Jocelyne for the Birthday wishes for my husband and the Beer Chips and Salsa you sent up to our room. I wished I could remember the young mans name that brought up a bottle of wine to our room after he seen me drop and break a bottle that I bought at a store to enjoy on our balcony, he didn't have to do that but he said that they felt bad for us and wanted us to have wine to enjoy, that is customer service going above and beyond and it certainly is appreciated. The grounds and the Hotel is just beautiful and the Pool is very nice and clean with Pool side service. We do feel that the bathrooms could use some upgrading but they were clean. Parking is a little steep at $17.00 per night, but it will not stop us to return to this Hotel and Spa, very nice beach right on the Bay which I liked better then the ocean side which is only a short walk across the street. Plenty of restaurants with in walking distance. Overall I would definitely recommend this Resort.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the second floor with a Balcony, you can leave the windows open all night that...

It was my wifes birthday. We have been blessed to travel the world and stay in many amazing locations. This was a great stay. Not only did they send her a great bottle of wine but they service never stopped. They have great staff people with awesome advice for restaurants and attractions. The beach is amazing as is the bay. The restaurant was great and we can't wait to stay their again. The interior areas make you think you are in Hawaii.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view or Interior of the resort view.

Working with Melissa Armstrong to see if the Catamaran was a good fit for our conference, and then defining the services within our budget was great. Then Victoria Hartwell took care of what we needed. They were as fun to work with as they were responsive and effective.

Room Tip: I ask for a room close to the conference rooms so I could pop in an out as need. They put me on the...

I live locally and my friend Kevin Kelly suggested I check out the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa for happy hour/dinner. Upon my arrival I was greeting by the front office manager Thomas M and a sales associate Desiree W. They were kind enough to walk me to the outside happy hour area and suggest some tasty apps! That was so friendly and very much appreciated. While I was there I ran into an old friend who happens to work there, Melissa A. She not only recommended fun activities to do at the catamaran but she was so knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Needless to say, the hospitality from the moment I walked in the door exceeded my expectations. I would not only recommend the Catamaran to out of town guest but locals too!

We went to The Catamaran for our 5-year wedding anniversary and had an incredibly relaxing stay. The tropical setting was soothing. Melissa Armstrong helped us with our reservation by recommending a beautiful suite overlooking Mission Bay. She also helped us with suggesting places to go for dinner within walking distance. She truly made the weekend even more special.
We visited the on site spa and we're further impressed. We took full advantage of the beach front jacuzzi and other spa amenities. We also enjoyed talking with the exotic birds, paddle boarding and exploring the city. Each night was ended by the fire pits at Moray's.
Overall the entire staff : sales manager, front desk, bell, severs, spa staff and rental desk were extremely helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back with (and without) the kids.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements. Additional wellness amenities include an outdoor pool and hot tub, beach cabanas, an open air fitness center, seasonal outdoor yoga classes and more. Further vacation activities include rental paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks, surfboards, bicycles and Segways. The Catamaran is also located within the beach towns Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, where guests can stroll the boardwalk or the iconic Crystal Pier, play at the beach or experience a variety of cafes and boutiques. The resort is also within 10 miles of major San Diego attractions such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Downtown’s Gaslamp District and the San Diego International Airport. ... more   less
