“NOMADS Soccer Tournament”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2013

My entire soccer team stayed here for the NOMADS soccer tournament and we loved it! Charlotte was extremely helpful with booking rooms in advance and helping with revising and modifying reservations as needed. The grounds are amazing with footpaths, ponds, waterfalls, fish and birds. They have a bike rental on the property which was a great way to spend an afternoon cruising up and down the beach walk. The restaurant and bar were both beautiful, accommodating, and reasonably priced. I would caution that they sold out quickly and any additional rooms which became available we had to pay the full rate rather than the discounted tournament rate (which was significantly more) so be sure to get all the rooms you need early!

Room Tip: Some rooms have beach access; otherwise if you are in the tower, the higher you are the better the v...

We look forward to seeing you in September and the forecast looks great, so hopefully there isn't a need for umbrellas then!

I had an awesome time here for a wedding. It was a great get away where I was able to relax and forget about the stresses of life for a long weekend. All of the staff was super helpful and the extra attention that Melissa Armstrong provided made the trip over the top!

For sure would recommend checking this place out! There was very little reason to leave the resort, but if you want to there are lots of places you can walk to.

I stayed at the Catamaran Resort over thanksgiving while visiting my Daughter. I have to say, the grounds were absolutely beautiful. There were beautiful koi ponds, waterfalls, ducks wandering the grounds, and parrots that were perched in a very nice setting. The grounds were well maintained and the staff couldn't have been any nicer.
I had the pleasure of staying in a tower suite- the view was breathtaking. It has to be the best view in all of as Diego.
There was happy hour daily with delicious food and Mai-Tia's on the patio overlooking the Bay.
A special thank you to Charlotte Corvi, Michael Starr. Melissa McGhee, Thomas Mohrlock and both Kristen's at the front desk for their wonderful hospitality
It was truly one of the most pleasurable stays I've ever had. In fact, I've already recommended the Catamaran to friends and family when visiting San Diego. I'm planning another trip back in April.

Room Tip: Views in tower suites are amazing

We stayed here the week leading up to Thanksgiving and it wasn't very crowded. We actually arrived very early, before the check in time. The front lobby has a beautiful waterfall with a pond with large koi and some tropical birds. One of the front desk clerks, I think it was Eva, readily answered questions about possible rooms that were cleaned and ready for us to to check in. I asked if we could see the reserved room as well as an upgraded option. The reserved room was ready for us to check in to. It was a studio with kitchenette on the 2nd floor in the tower, with a garden view. That was a big room, plenty of space for our family of 4, with a lovely view of the beautiful tropical grounds. The upgraded option was a bay view room on the 2nd floor, which was smaller and did not have a kitchenette. I went back to the front desk and asked if there was yet another bay view option, which we ended getting. It was smaller than the studio with a kitchenette, but had a bay view, a balcony, a bedroom with 2 double beds, a sofa bed with a sleeper in the living area, a closet, fridge and separate bar sink.
The Catamaran grounds were tropical with parrots, cockatoos and tropical birds in a special area from 10-3 every day. Waterfowl in ponds and tropical plants, including lovely hibiscus plants, are everywhere. The Mission Bay beach is nice and calm, right outside the hotel was peaceful and calm. There is a public walk and it is a public beach but it wasn't crowded or noisy. The restaurant and bar had good food and friendly servers. The pool was heated, but the jacuzzi was not working. Hotel guests could use the spa hot tub instead. The ocean is a close walk away. Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument, Little Italy and Old Town were only 15-20 minutes away.
The hotel was beyond our expectations and I highly recommend everyone to consider it as an option for the San Diego area.

Room Tip: If you can get a higher room in the tower, to get a view of the bay, you may get a better price than...

Thank you for such a nice and thorough review of the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa. We're happy to hear you ended up in a room you liked and got to enjoy everything at the resort and in the surrounding area. We do apologize about the inconvenience of our Jacuzzi renovation. We resurfaced the entire area while adding tiles and new hand rails. The Jacuzzi re-opened on Thanksgiving Day, but we hope you enjoyed the spa whirlpool instead. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.

After paying for an upgrade so we didn't have a view of a parking garage, our second room was much much nicer. We were on the top floor, and had views of the bay. Our biggest complaint was of the customer service. We tried to get an umbrella for the outside (as I am fair skinned and needed the shade), and they told us they had umbrellas and would "try" to get outside to get it for us. We waited 30 minutes and they never came. They never called us to say they weren't coming either. It was the only request we made in our 5 nights of staying there and it was disappointing their customer service was so poor. Also be warned, the elevators are really loud, so be sure not to be right next to them, or you will hear a loud grinding noise every time someone rides the elevator.

We appreciate your honest feedback and we are deeply sorry for not only failing to provide you with an umbrella, but for failing to communicate with you. We thrive in providing the utmost customer service while catering to the needs of our guests. There clearly was a lapse in this case and that is not OK. This issue will be addressed in our staff meeting on Thursday to discover where the breakdown in communication took place so something like this never happens again. We have also notified our maintenance team about the noisy elevators. This disruption simply shouldn't exist and we will look for ways to eliminate the noise. Thank you for your review and we hope you'll give us another chance down the road.

We stayed on the 11th floor in the tower and the views were great. We had both Mission bay and Pacific Ocean views. Liked the location. There was a walk/run path along the Bay right in front of hotel. Walking distance to a great breakfast joint "The Mission". The room was a little tired but perfectly fine. Bathroom was clean and decent and small kitchenette worked out well. Kids enjoyed the pool. We didn't really deal with staff much other than to check in and out.

We visited the Catamaran Resort in October. Our family included 2 adults, a teenager, a 4 year old and an 18 month old. We were all able to do our own thing: parents could walk to the grocery store or coffee shop, the teenager could walk out to the boardwalk, my husband walked the kids to the beach and bay.

Our room had a kitchenette (in the tower) and we got a crib delivered to our room. The crib was a decent real crib, not a pack and play, which was nice. I was able to cook the kids breakfast and lunch and we went out do dinner each of the 3 nights we were there. There is no continental breakfast, which is kind of a bummer when you have kids because going out for every meal with small children is not fun vacationing.

We did have to call down to the office when the wireless internet wouldn't work and they sent someone up within minutes. The staff is really nice and accommodating so if there is something you need, just call.

We spent each day visiting some kind of major attraction so we didn't really spend a ton of time in the hotel itself. It provided what we need when we needed it. At the end of our visit we drove by a couple of other options and decided that we would probably stay there again when we visit in the spring. We were thinking about renting a townhouse on the beach but for the price, we decided that we could stay at the Catamaran and spend the savings on entertainment and food.

One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements.
