“PBC.....unwinding after the wedding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

Beautiful, well kept grounds. We stayed at the second floor of theTower, my sister on the 8th floor. She had a large room with beautiful view, the best room to stay, otherwise it is just any other hotel room. We had the Breakfast package but it is the same every morning, and we were disappointed with the service. It is very convenient to outside restaurants, close to the beach and Mission Bay. Over all it is a good place for a vacation..

Room Tip: Tower, upper levels rooms with kitchen.

This was my first visit to San Diego and the Catamaran Resort was a perfect place to spend our time. The rooms are comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. We were visiting for a family wedding and Melissa Armstrong was wonderfully accommodating to all of our needs. The hotel is close to the ocean and plenty of cool shops and places to eat. The hotel also had exceptional food. It was a wonderful time and we hope to make it back again soon!

Room Tip: Rooms on the bay offer a terrific view and plenty of lawn space if you have a ground floor room. The...

We just returned from a large family wedding at the Catamaran. From top to bottom, the best wedding we have ever been to. Starting with how hard Melissa Armstrong worked on getting all the rooms and facilities planned and booked for us, to check in, and the rooms and Allyne helping get reservations at a special place for dinner. It was near perfect in virtually every way.

We have attended at least 30 weddings in the last few years. This one is at the top for service, location, friendly helpful staff, food and bar quality, rooms, et al. Not sure there is a better place to make a lifetime memory than the Catamaran.

Room Tip: bottom floor bay front are wonderful if you want access to the beach and boardwalk.

We have stayed at the Catamaran Resort on more than one occasion, and the experience has always been wonderful.
Everyone is so attentive, and the rooms just beautiful.
Location right on the bay is so very relaxing.
Would recommend this as a destination for anybody looking for a very positive experience!

Room Tip: Ground Floor, Bayfront! Outstanding!

We found the resort grounds, location etc just perfect. Nice calm beach on bay side. 2 minute walk to mission beach. For this reason I think the resort would be recommended, but that being said, and for me this is a big but, the rooms are almost describable as gross. The shower didn't drain properly and the tiles were grimy and mouldy. The beds were comfortable enough but the rooms were also dark and in need of serious reno!!! I think different people have different expectations when it comes to comfort in rooms and I tend to like nice things. But when this hotel has such beautiful grounds and an overpriced rate for these rooms I'd say they definitely don't live up to what my expectations would be.

We apologize you encountered a bathroom that clearly didn't live up to your standards, nor ours. We do have a maintenance service available 24 hours and they are happy to help with any problem. The issues will be address so future guests do not encounter them. Thank you for your feedback and we're glad you enjoyed the grounds and surrounding area.

We only went to San Diego because our travel agent suggested it as part of our california road trip and we are so glad he did. The catamaran resort is great, from the moment you walk in with the waterfall in the lobby you feel you are somewhere special to relax in. The rooms were a bit dated but nice enough and we had a lovely view overlooking the pool. The local version of hells angels turned up while we were there but they did not ruin anything in fact they were really friendly. The bar area has tables outside which lead down to a wonderful view of the bay, idyllic, there are even little fires to keep you warm if it is chilly in the evening so cozy. The location is great with the bay outside the hotel and across the road in the other direction is the beach. Fab would love to return.

We like the location of the Catamaran in Pacific Beach. It is a good location, though pricey for the rooms themselves. We had a 2nd story suite...walk up stairs, we had lots of luggage, the poor bell man, I felt sorry for him climbing stairs.

We had a room with 2 beds, comfortable mattresses, plus a separate living room with a wet bar, small coffee maker, and No Microwave. The bedroom had a window and tv. The living room also had a tv and a nice balcony, with seating, but no small table. We had 3 tables in the living room, coffee, end, and large round with 4 chairs. We had 3 people, adults, and stayed 8 nights, we needed the 2 tv's as my husband watches basketball. The hotel was busy while we were there, with weddings and other events. It seems like a very popular place. They had a nice gift shop. Didn't use the spa this trip, but frequented the outdoor pool and hot tub. Housekeeping did a good job. Plenty of towels, hot water, and good water pressure. No complaints, though I can see why people want the rooms upgraded.

The grounds are very pretty, lots of scenic beauty. The birds were good. They weren't too noisy or anything like that early or late. The resturant always seemed busy, we ordered room service once, sandwich for hubby, which he said was OK. He had the seafood pot pie in the resturant which he really liked. I had the duck with some sort of celery root and figs...it was Very Good. I also tried a soup, crab if I remember correctly...didn't like...cold, and no seafood to speak of. I thought the resturant did a good job overall, as the place was always busy, I'm always afraid you won't get waited on, or will wait forever, but that was not the case.

Love the location and views, we rented a car, no problem with the parking garage, or the in and outs. There is quite a bit going on in this area and enjoyed it. Recommend the Mission, World Famous, the Italian gelato place, The Better Buzz. Ralphs, and CVS are close. Ate at Nick's twice, we really like that place.

Highly recommend a vist to Torry Pines, Del Mar, Solana Beach, La Jolla areas. BEAUTIFUL.
If you are a dog lover, there is a wonderful pet store next to Zel's.

Room Tip: like to have a room facing the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements. Additional wellness amenities include an outdoor pool and hot tub, beach cabanas, an open air fitness center, seasonal outdoor yoga classes and more. Further vacation activities include rental paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks, surfboards, bicycles and Segways. The Catamaran is also located within the beach towns Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, where guests can stroll the boardwalk or the iconic Crystal Pier, play at the beach or experience a variety of cafes and boutiques. The resort is also within 10 miles of major San Diego attractions such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Downtown’s Gaslamp District and the San Diego International Airport. ... more   less
