This hotel reminds me of being in Hawaii. The hotel is right on the bay and the place is beautiful. They have ponds with fish and birds. The breakfast and bed was amazing. The breakfast was really nice especially sitting on the bay. This is a must stay hotel!

Room Tip: Get an ocean view but all the rooms are good.

"sister" resort screwed up on our reservations. Catamaran were willing to help us out, resort that screwed up offered nothing!. Catamaran even paid for parking for us to make us happy. great location. Room cleaning like their sister resort can run into later in the day. came back at 4 and room still not cleaned. Some down sides. One was that the restaurant wasn't that good and was pricey. Only thing good there was the orange juice at $4.00 each, but was non stop. Parking was a Nightmare as they have lots of weddings/events. Did come home late after the boat ride and there were rats running around outside our room!

Room Tip: had a bay side room was very nice. lots of traffic on the walk way for the first floor but easy acc...

While the building itself, and it's fixtures are slightly dated, you can't beat the location. It's literally across the street from the beach, and the view from most of the rooms is fantastic. Walking distance from a bunch of great spots, and the staff is very helpful. 'Mick' you rock!

Room Tip: If you are staying in the 'Tower' there is a 75% chance you will have an amazing view, just...

I had a blast and when I come back to San Diego I plan to stay here. The staff bent over backwards to take care of my needs. I was close enough to walk to the local grocery store "Ralphs" I highly suggest staying here.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are wonderful. Be warned though that you may or may not have a fridge and microwave...

We didn't pay for our week long stay, so I can't comment on the value based on a given price. However, it was nice to be so close to the beach and various water sports. The staff are genuinely helpful, we never had a bad experience with anyone we came across or needed help from, and we talked with probably 2 dozen employees in various positions so a fairly representative sample size.

We had a tower room on the bay side, but it was literally the only one with a palm tree in front of it, (5th floor) so our view, while not bad, was literally the only one in the whole tower that wasn't unobstructed, lol. The room, when we arrived, however had clearly been used and not cleaned before we got there late afternoon. The bed had been slept in and someone had just pulled the sheets back up to appear like it was made. There was trash in the bathroom, including used hygiene products. The room felt on the verge of being dated, give it another 5 years and it will be.

The food prepared by the resort for several catered beach side parties was very good. The food in the restaurant, however, was average tasting and grossly overpriced for dinner; we didn't try the breakfast.

My wife enjoyed the spa, she said it was the best massage she'd ever had.

Overall, an enjoyable experience and we will stay there again.

Room Tip: Avoid the 5th floor in the tower, 6th floor and above to get a good bay view or 10th and above to ge...

The location and amenities for this hotel are good. However, we had a 'tower' room overlooking the multi-storey car park and the entrance to the 'tower' part of the hotel (basically like a council tower block of flats!!!) I think if you got the side of the 'tower' that overlooks mission bay you'd be okay, but on the other side it's not good. We were also right next to the elevator and stairwell which were both noisy at all hours. I think we must have had the worst room available, which isn't too bad if its just for 1 night but we were there for 3.
On a positive note! The location was great for access to the quieter Mission Bay beach - straight through the hotel onto the beach. Chairs & umbrellas were available free of charge (on a first come first served basis) which was a real bonus. If you're gonna stay here request a sea view room and not in the 'tower'. If they have to put you in the 'tower' request a room higher up and away from the elevators, sea view preferable! Our stay would have been much more enjoyable in a better located room.

We stayed this summer. My wife, son and I had a blast. The motorized floating lawn chairs were our favorite. Food was spectacular and amenities were great. We truly went into vacation mode. I highly recommend spending the extra money and staying here. It was our first time and we will be back for sure. Tons of stuff for the entire family.

Room Tip: On the bay side

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements. Additional wellness amenities include an outdoor pool and hot tub, beach cabanas, an open air fitness center, seasonal outdoor yoga classes and more. Further vacation activities include rental paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks, surfboards, bicycles and Segways. The Catamaran is also located within the beach towns Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, where guests can stroll the boardwalk or the iconic Crystal Pier, play at the beach or experience a variety of cafes and boutiques. The resort is also within 10 miles of major San Diego attractions such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Downtown’s Gaslamp District and the San Diego International Airport. ... more   less
