“Awesome!”

Hotel was nice. Some reviews say a little dated...and it was, but fantastic location. Staff were very sweet. Concierge was very helpful. Grounds are beautiful. Brekky in the restaurant was amazing every morning. They serve stuff I wouldn't normally have such as eggs and polenta. It was fantastic. French toast was stuffed with ricotta and orange essence. It was orgasmic! The waiter Hector was so nice. I am sorry, but forget the waitress we had for the last two days, but she was equally sweet! For what we paid, and the location, this place is worth every cent.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor in the 3 storey. Try to get the top floor as the sound proofing isn'...

I am giving the Catamaran 5 stars because of the EXCELLENT Service! Each and every staff person had a smile, accommodated our every need, i.e. early check in, late check out....The room was spacious, the sheets soft, the bed comfortable with ample pillows, flat screen TV, very clean. My only complaint about the room was that the towels could have been softer and fluffier. The head board for the bed was carved wood. Wood carved cabinet for the flat screen TV. A nice balcony with ample seating for sitting and watching the Bay...And they have everything you need - great room service, full dinning, bar... pool, spa, spa services, bike rentals...Concierge gave us great advice on getting around San Diego, how to purchase a bus pass which you can pick up right in front of the Hotel and get anywhere easily. I highly recommend this Resort to anyone and will be back for fun and relaxation.

Room Tip: If you want total silence ask to be away from the outdoor dining and bar area. Ask for a room with...

From the moment we checked in we felt like we were in paradise. The lobby has a beautiful man made waterfall with the sounds of the tropical water that can relaxe your body and mind. As you stroll through the outside you'll see gorgegous tropical gardens and you'll encounter tropical birds. Very clean and manicured landscaping. Our room was on the north tower over looking the city and ocean view. Breath taking!! Room was very clean & comfortable. They also have a beauitful outside lounge area over looking the bay with firepits burning while you get cozy. Flat screens to watch some sports. Drinks and food was good. We enjoyed their Sunday brunch. What we liked the most was the fact we were near everything. Walking distance to the beach, resturants, shopping and night life. We took sailing lessons which was so much fun!!! Overall experience was EXCELLENT!! This is perfect for a romantic getaway as well as family friendly environment.

The Catamaran Resort looked spectacular on its website, so when we came here we were a bit disappointed. The hotel is fine, but not as spectacular and luxurious as the website suggests.

The reception and the gardens between the buildings are beautiful and well maintained. The rooms however are a bit dated. The airconditioning is particularly noisy, and the showerhead is mounted quite low (I did not fit under there). The balcony is very plain, with only two plastic chairs and a little table.

The restaurant is good, albeit a bit expensive for drinks. I did not have breakfast here, but the hamburgers make a great dinner. The fireplaces outside on the terrace are particularly nice in the winter.

The pool and hot tub are nice and heated but a bit small, considering this is a resort & spa. The spa itself we did not use as the prices were outrageous.

There is plenty of entertainment nearby, in that one can easily go to La Jolla, Torrey Pines and the pacific and bay beaches. Unfortunately there are few nice restaurants within walking distance, with the notable exception of The Mission, which serves great breakfast and lunch. As we did not have a rental car going to downtown San Diego with its many restaurants and tourist sites was quite the trip, but it is doable by bus and trolley.

We had a meeting at the Catamaran Hotel in January of 2013. The group was really impressed with the hotel: very professional, very flexible and accommodating, food was great, service was great. 5 stars :)

Grounds and location are excellent. Rooms are getting updated, but clean. Pool area closes at 10:00, which might be a little early on weekends. Also noticed local teenagers sneaking into pool area on three out of five nights.

We stayed here in December 2012, in the tower on the 13th floor (they call it the penthouse). Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff that greeted us was friendly and helpful. We did use the spa services while we were there and had a great massage. The spa facilities were wonderful and we loved the jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. The hotel sits right on Mission Bay and you can walk out of the hotel and enjoy the beach or the walking path along the bay.
The negatives were that most mornings we didn't have hot water for our shower. Typically we'd take a shower around 8 am, and by then all that was left was luke warm water or cool water. We called the front desk and they checked to make sure it was working. I think the hot water tank just wasn't sufficient for the hotel because there'd be hot water in the evening. Also, the room that we stayed in had a full kitchen. But the cups and dishes were VERY limited. Don't expect to be able to prepare very much food.
The positives were a great pool and jacuzzi that we all enjoyed every evening. The pool is heated and we were able to enjoy it in December. The hotel gave us coupons for a free breakfast every morning in their restaurant downstairs. The food was good. Our room was quiet and we slept well.

Room Tip: I would ask to NOT be in the tower.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
One of the few resorts on Mission Bay to not charge a resort fee! The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is a paradisiacal destination located on the shores of Mission Bay and mere steps from San Diego’s famous Pacific Beach. With features including lush tropical gardens and private beach, this Polynesian-themed hotel offers an ideal blend of fun and tranquility all year-round. Established in 1958, the Catamaran is a paradise featuring more than 1,000 varieties of exotic plants and animals from around the world. Palm trees, bamboo, waterfalls and koi ponds appeal to the senses, while playful parrots delight and intrigue guests. The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti. At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. All guests are provided a full range of amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants of 2015 and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy daily happy hour specials. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms. Guests may also choose to grab a bite poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet. Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Step back in time and enjoy a colorful sunset from the top deck, or kick up your heels as the vessel becomes a vibrant nightlife destination with live entertainment and a full-service bar. The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements. Additional wellness amenities include an outdoor pool and hot tub, beach cabanas, an open air fitness center, seasonal outdoor yoga classes and more. Further vacation activities include rental paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks, surfboards, bicycles and Segways. The Catamaran is also located within the beach towns Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, where guests can stroll the boardwalk or the iconic Crystal Pier, play at the beach or experience a variety of cafes and boutiques. The resort is also within 10 miles of major San Diego attractions such as SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Downtown’s Gaslamp District and the San Diego International Airport. ... more   less
