The perfect spot for a San Diego Vacation. Easy access to downtown, the harbor, Mission Bay Park and Sea World. The view from the hotel takes in the harbor and downtown skyline. Plenty of room for walking wand watching the ship traffic in and out of San Diego. Wouldn't stay anywhere else now that we've been here.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights since we were in town for a memorial service for a family member. This hotel had wonderful views of the marina and also the bay. We had a handicapped room that was on the marina side and we were right by the one pool and hot tub and could sit out on the patio and watch the boats. Room was well maintained and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was set up well for someone who is handicapped. We did dinner at the restaurant on site and the food was excellent. If you want a great place to stay on Shelter Island that is not over priced this is the gem.

Overall, the hotel property is located in more of a "locals" type area of San Diego vs the more touristy areas. It's situated beautifully between the marina and harbor with a gorgeous view of downtown San Diego on the harbor side. If you don't have a rental, it's a fairly long bike ride (if you're not in great shape) to the downtown area. A taxi might be a good alternative otherwise. We'd describe the vibe as a peaceful, quiet retreat. The pool and spa areas were adequate and well maintained. Attention to details, such as insuring towels were readily and consistently available in the pool/spa area, was a little lacking. The room was comfortable and set up typically with the exception of the toilet paper dispenser which was very awkwardly/irrationally placed, and ergonomically unfriendly position. But, I suppose this could be filed under the "minor inconvenience" category. The front desk staff were polite, attentive and helpful. We only used the bar section of the restaurant, for coffee and muffins to go in the mornings. The wait staff were very friendly, receptive, and efficient. The access keys worked consistently for entry to our room, but did not work most of the time, and sluggishly at best for access into the locked areas of the property, including entrance to the room suites, common areas, etc. While this was a nuisance it could also be filed under "minor inconveniences" as well. The front desk staff "demagnetized" the keys, and were very friendly when approached about the problem so they get an "A" for effort even though this did not solve the problem. Tennis courts, including rackets, and bikes were available at no cost which is a nice amenity. We'd definitely stay here again all things considered.

We stayed here for five nights during a trip down the California coast. We had stayed in the city during a previous trip to San Diego. For this visit it was much nicer to stay just outside of the city and the marina was a perfect location. Although the hotel is out of the city it is still very well situated for many of the San Diego attractions. The views across the marina were spectacular. We had a great room - a one bedroom suite, which was very large and had a balcony overlooking the marina running the length of the lounge and bedroom. We had an issue with the lighting in the area of the bathroom that was linked to the bedroom (no door), the first night the lights could not be switched off so we had to sleep with them on all night. Maintenance fixed the issue the next day (although we did have to ask more than once). Then during the last night the lights kept switching on - we switched them off but they just kept coming back on!! Needless to say we did not get much sleep!! We did complain and were given a discount on the room, which was acceptable. One of the previous reviews on this hotel mentions cockroaches - unfortunately they are a way of life in San Diego and do get in occasionally but they are not really a problem. We did have one on the first night but I escorted it out of the room and did not have a repeat experience!! On the whole I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a water view - more expensive but worth it.

We stayed in this hotel for four nights. Two of those night we spent on a suite.

As to that room, it has plenty of space, a decent kitchen, bathroom and balcony. However, during the two nights that we spent there we found two cockroaches, both in the kitchen. When presenting the matter to the hotel front desk they replied there was nothing they could do about it since it was part of the natural wildlife.

Regarding the second room, it was a "king water view". The bed was nice and the view to the marina was terrific.

However, the shower made an unbearable noice at a high pich that made showering a torture. When presenting this matter to the front desk they would reply "Ah".

Finally, I used the dry cleaning service twice. In both occasions they did not deliver it to my room and I had to call the front desk to find out what was happening.

Conclusion: great location, poor maintenance and unresponsive staff.

Very nice accomodations. Ask for ocean or bay view. location is close to all San Diego attractions and it is nice just walking around the marina. Pier close by to watch people fish or to just people watch. Very relaxing and fun just to walk around. Staff was very friendly and accomodating.
