Stayed here for our honeymoon 3 years ago and have come back every year since. The staff is friendly & has many amenities available if requested. Late night walks on the strand across the street are so romantic & peaceful. So happy to have found this place!

Very nice hotel in a beautiful location. The room was a little dated but that was not an issue with the location being fabulous.

Room Tip: King suite.

We loved this place! It is in a very beautiful location marina one side and bay on the other.
We paid for a room with a water view and were eventually placed in a Second floor room overlooking the car park with a great bay view. It was the Casa Marina building. We stayed here three nights. The room was very clean. Beds comfy, air conditioner quiet room nicely decorated. Loved the balcony watching the sailboats go by.

Ate in the restaurant one night tasted yummy and reasonably good value. Also had room service which was equally tasty but expensive with taxes.

The pools and the spas are very warm to swim in. Our kids had a ball. The outdoor fire a great place to have a drink and enjoy the views of the marina.

We used the guest laundry which was handy. Only trouble was all the amenities are quite a walk
From where our room was. It didn't bother us that much though.

Room Tip: You must have a room with a water view it is well worth paying a bit extra for this.

We stayed for two nights at the BW Island Palms. The hotel is located about 10 minutes by car from San Diego Airport on Shelter Island. The location is really nice just feet from the water and in the middle of a nice garden. The hotel complex comprises different buildings. We were given a room in the "Casa del Mar" building which is the freshly renovated part of the hotel, as we were informed upon check-in by the very friendly reception clerk.
The room was located on the first floor and had direct access to a small garden area between the building and the parking lot. It was of medium size and came with all the standard ameinities you expect from a BW Plus. The bathroom was quite small but functional and there was a sink with mirror just outside of the bathroom which we found a nice setup. A very big flat-screen TV was part of the amenities, too. The only negative point about the room was the quite noisy AC which we decided to turn off since it wasn't too hot anyhow.
On one of the mornings we ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant. We found the quality of food to be only average, but prices were very low, so price-quality ratio was ok.
Summing up, we had a really good time at this hotel and would return anytime. To anyone visiting San Diego, we would recommend Shelter Island over downtown as it is much quieter yet still close to the action downtown.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the renovated complex; they are really great

The hotel is nice, staff great and views of marina were lovely but the noises from the rooms beside were loud. The guests weren’t being super loud but we could still here their TV/movies, conversations and snoring through the walls.

One of the reasons we decided on the Island Palms was the seclusion, close enough to downtown without the noise. Too bad it didn’t work out that well.

My family of four stayed at this hotel for one week in late April. We were in a second floor room in the Casa Marina building facing the Marina. The housekeeping was terrific, the room was quiet, the beds adjustable and the view was wonderful! I thought that we might hear other guests, above or below us, being on the 2nd floor but only rarely when someone went by in the hallway did we hear anyone else.
We ate at the Blue Wave. Once upon our arrival in the late afternoon and we had breakfast there twice. The breakfast menu is quite varied and we all enjoyed our meals. We used both swimming pools and my kids particulalrly liked that the water was quite warm. They are picky when it comes to pool temps!
The front desk personnel were very helpful and in addition to some suggestions and directions, they provided us with some coupons for some major attractions. I assume coupons that are available on-line to anyone, but when we were heading to an attraction that we hadn't planned for, it was a welcome perk.
The internet connection was reliable and exremely easy to connect to.
We also appreciated the in-room safe, the microwave, the large TV screen and the elevator (especially with luggage).
We loved that the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle but close to many things when you have a vehicle. It seems as though it was about 15 minutes to almost everything that we came to see and do! I would stay here again.

We paid extra to have a suite, so glad we did, it was fabulous, huge and airy with a kitchen/diner and fabulous views over the pool and marina. Spotlessly clean and daily maid service, i am fussy and i couldnt fault the cleanliness at all. The reception staff were great although the service in the restaurant was very hit & miss and long waits for drinks by the pool.
San Diego is a wonderful place to visit, the city has a great vibe and lots of different places to visit. Avoid Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach if you don't like seaside tat, there are much nicer areas to see. The SS Midway was very interesting and within walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants etc. Fabulous Sunday brunch at the Bali Hi on Shelter Island Drive, champagne included-what a treat!

Room Tip: Book a suite overlooking the marina - they are massive!
