Best Western Yacht Harbor Hotel
Ranked #84 of 286 Hotels in San Diego
Reviewed August 29, 2014

I've stayed at other Best Western locations, and this is probably one of the worst. I cannot complain about the staff--everyone was pleasant and helpful. Hotel lobby is bland and gray. The bathroom in my room was so tiny and uncomfortable and I felt squished when using the facilities. The old and outdated laundry machine was outside my door; at 8am one morning, the machine was making a deathly loud and screechy noise. The cleaning staff didn't know what to do! It was terribly disturbing. The WiFi is not super fast. The gym has basic machines, but in a small and kind of smelly room (no weights). I would NOT stay at this location again.

The main attraction for this hotel is its location on Harbor Drive. For anyone less familiar with San Diego this means it is easy to get to the main attractions without getting lost. The hotel itself is smart enough and clean. Spacious, light rooms with a balcony which has a harbour view. The swimming pool is small but ok for a dip at breakfast time or the end of the day and pool towels are provided.
Beds are clean and comfortable and air conditioning is not too noisy

Breakfast is just about OK - pretty standard for this class of hotel.
Hotel has free parking and is a short walk from some fantastic fresh seafood restaurants on the harbour.
Some people write about the noisy road but we didn't notice this - possibly because we live on a busy road in London!

Room Tip: Don't bother paying extra for a harbour view - if you ask for a side room looking over the car p...

We stayed here last minute for three nights, what a great location.
We had not paid for a seaview room and our room was located at the side of the hotel however from our balcony you could see a little of the harbour. The room itself was very clean and situated on a high floor.
The breakfast consisted of bagels, muffins, waffles, yoghurt, cereal and fruit which was of a good standard and was being constantly replenished.
There were cookies and coffee available free of charge during the morning this changed to muffins in the afternoon together with apples at reception.
We did use the pool but it is in a very small area with not enough loungers however in fairness not enough room, but very clean and well maintained.
The staff were all very helpful and pleasant.
There are restaurants across the road on the harbourside which were expensive or behind the hotel there is a Dennys.
We booked a dolphin/whale watching trip which was excellent saw lots of dolphins, seals and two whales.
The local transport cost $7 for a day pass that was unlimited throughout San Diego and included buses and trolleys (trams/trains). We also took the ferry to Coronardo Island to see the hotel made famous by Some Like it Hot, it was a very busy day and the hotel was so so busy even if we had the money glad we weren’t staying there!!! It’s a nice island to visit for a couple of hours, and browse the expensive shops to see how the other half live.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a view

Size of room and furnishings are above standard . Check-in was very quick and breakfast was all one would need. New pancake machine with excellent coffee machine. Many people used the pool and seemed to enjoy it. Loads of free parking. Excellent restaurants across the street. Five minutes from the airport.

My stay at this hotel was wonderful. For the price paid it was worth it. Though the internet was slow everything else made up for it. Comfy beds are not the word it was a great night sleep. The sheets you could tell were clean the smell was like you hung the sheets outside and had fresh air. The view was spectacular! Parking was very good and plenty. Small pool.

If you're staying in San Diego this motel is a good option. The room while quite small was clean and the bed was comfortable. When it comes down to it we don't spend much awake time in the room anyway, so size doesn't really matter. B.W.Y.H. is centrally located to the points of interest. Parking is plentiful and free which may not seem like a big deal but another motel we stayed at in California charged $26 per night to park. All in all we my wife and I agree that we would definitely stay there again.

We spent the weekend here (August 8th & 9th 2014) for my g.f.'s b-day..... I paid in advance, so I was given a "special rate"......

As this was not my first time here, I pretty much knew what to expect... mostly not bad, and definitely not the worst.

1: The parking is ample, but the people who park are Bubba-heads, many take up TWO Spaces? Unfortunately, if you are Not "Disabled" and you park in the lot, you have to drag your suitcases up a flight of stairs in order to get to the Lobby! That is not a good thing for OLDER Guests!

2: The card key didn't work on the first/second/third try most of the time.

3: The rooms are small.... We had 2 queen beds. After we put up the luggage racks at the end of our beds, there was no room to access the desk or balcony..... tight spacing. However, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, as are the pillows. The view of the Harbor & Downtown allowed for some Awesome photography.

4: The shampoo. is that cheap "Suave" crap and we are two adult women.... Shampoo only for one? REALLY?

5: There is no bottled water for your coffee.... but there is plenty of coffee!

6: The NOISE...... You are next to the Airport (flights 8:30 am-10:30 pm) and on a busy street (Ask for free earplugs).

7: The towels are small & coarse.

8: Breakfast? OMG: What is with the Fake egg discs filled w/ FAKE cheese? The bananas were overripe (fruit flies everywhere). A pancake machine (I didn't try it)... No Bacon, No Sausage..... Odd potatoes........ Mini yogurt cups & dry cereal.... I didn't see any milk.

9: The staff is friendly and helpful.........

This is not a High End Best Western nor is it "Above Average"..... In a pinch I will stay here, as the price is right......

Room Tip: Rooms away from the airport & street are most likely quieter.....
