We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, especially the location. The staff was friendly and helpful..especially since my husband needs noise to sleep and they had white noise machines available for us. The nearby Presbyterian Church was very welcoming and greatly enriched our stay. We rated this 4 stars & enjoyed the location, location, location.

2 night stay in Mid-March on the way to Hawaii. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful when we stopped by to ask some information on the area. Hotel is only minutes from the airport and they do provide a shuttle from the front desk. Limited eating options within walking distance, would have been better if we had rented a car. Was an easy ride to the Zoo and downtown. Rooms are older but were clean and comfortable. Walls are thin though and noise from other rooms upstairs was a problem the 2nd night. Continental Breakfast in the mornings was a plus though. Overall I would definitely come back in San Diego again.

Room Tip: If you are wi-fi dependent choose an inner room, we were on a 3rd floor outer room and the signal wa...

Here's the Good: I don't think you could beat the location of this hotel. It's less than 2 miles from the airport and a fairly short drive to the downtown area, SeaWorld, and a number of other attractions. There are good places to eat within walking distance. Small pool and small workout room available. The harbor is quite a sight with literally thousands of sailboats.
The Bad: don't assume that they got your reservation right! Get it in writing. Don't rely on a clerk looking you in the eye and assuring you that your room will be there for you. Don't expect to "upgrade" -- all they have here are double queens, and standard king rooms.
The Ugly: Don't accept room that ends in the number "08" or "16" -- these rooms are on the ends of the u-shaped building. Your view will be mainly of the fire escape. Worse than that: the fire escape has bright lights on every landing. You will think it is day when you wake up in the middle of the night -- and that is IF you are able to get to sleep in the first place. Be aware also: the road traffic is significant, as is the air traffic. The "U-shape" of the facility seems to trap the noise.
Recommendation: I'll check out one of the other hotels in the vicinity if I plan a return to this area.

Stayed here with my wife for the first part of our CA adventure. We both really enjoyed San Diego. The hotel is easy to find and well located to tour the area. Check in was simple with attentive, helpful staff. Our room was on the 6th floor and was ample for our needs, I do get the road noise issues that other guests have mentioned, however our room was as far away from the road as possible and as such we had no issues. Each room does have a small balcony that would benefit from a couple of outdoor chairs. Breakfast comes as part of the package and is again ample for your needs. All told a very good hotel..there is no reason not to book this one.

2nd time staying here. I like more of modern hotels but I chose this one cause I was definitely on a budget. My friends and I are all 21 and came to go bar hopping @ gaslamp, so if you're looking for a young crowd hotel, this is not it. Nothing but old people and families. Besides that, i really like this hotel and the all the t.v.s are updated to flat screens. Not like the picture they show you. So was surprised with that. Clean and beds are nice.Love the balcony feature. Nice friendly staff. Would stay here again if on a budget but like to stay in downtown area. Also chose this hotel because parking is free! And all the hotels that I looked up in downtown, charge for parking. But after taking a taxi from here to gaslamp, came out to 20 bucks. Would have been cheaper to just stay at a hotel over there!!! So overall, my experience and for the reasons why i came to san diego, I would give 4 out of 5. :)

This is a nice hotel. Nothing fancy, but if you can get a good rate it is well worth it.

Nice location. The harbor is right across the street, we went for walks there quite often. Room was clean but dated. HD TV with local channels in HD was nice. Internet did not work in our room (207). Breakfast room was way too small for busy times. We were up early (Eastern Time) so we always had a spot at breakfast. They had waffles, hard boiled eggs and continental breakfast type foods. Our kids used the pool everyday and loved it. Noise was not an issue for us. Some reviews complain about noise, I don't know what they expected being next to a busy street and airport not far away. Even next to the street and airport, we never had an issue with excessive noise.

If this hotel increased the shuttle options it would be far more desirable. We rented a car, but if they could run a shuttle to a few main attractions (sea world, old town, zoo) and run the airport shuttle at LEAST during daylight hours (shuttle stops at 5pm!!! are you kidding me??), we could have left the rental car behind.

Nice restaurants in walking distance. We ate at Miguel's Cocina (twice, 10 min walk, good mexican, busy on the weekends, go early), Pomodoro (went here because wait was too long at Miguels the first time, nice italian, food was ok, no kids menu), Mitch's Seafood (5 min walk, casual, great seafood, order at counter and they bring it out), Pizza Nova (1 min walk, happy hour specials, it was good). There were a bunch of other restaurants we wanted to try, but didn't have the time.

Room Tip: Room 207 did not have a good WiFi signal. It was quieter not being next to the main road.
