I qualify this review by stating that this is not a hotel for everyone, although personally I really enjoy staying here. Some of the things to consider before booking at the Hacianda Old Town.

Do you like to walk and climb stairs? The hotel climbs quite steeply from the main street in Old Town and if you have a room in building 5 or 6 you could be in for a climb.

Do dark rooms bother you? The hotel is in the motif of old Spanish California and the wood and lighting is rather dark. The rooms are clean and well kept, but hardly could be described as bright.

Are you really bothered by traffic and airport noise? The 5 freeway is below the property and the hotel is adjacent to San Diego International Airport. So there is noise here.

Do you have trouble parking in tight spaces? If you plan on renting an SUV or large car, parking in one of the tight spaces in the garages will challenge the best of drivers. Rent a small car.

Now why my family and I love this hotel:

The views from the top rooms are spectacular. We stay in building 6 which overlooks all of Old Town, San Diego Harbor, fireworks at Sea World, and a great view of the Sunset.

We love the location, just steps from Old Town shopping and restaurants. The zoo and downtown are less than 5 minutes away as is Sea World. In the evenings you can step outside your room and smell the aromas from the restaurants below.

We like the Old Spanish feel of the hotel.

This place can be a real bargain considering the location and view. We paid just over $100 a night during Spring Break. This was our 4th stay at this property and we will keep coming back. Just note it may not be the place for every traveler.

The location of the hotel is great, inside old town and the trolley.
The rooms vary in size and ambience. Our room was very small (very clean) and we heard music and noise from the restaurant late into the evening (our room was just below the (..Acapulco restaurant). There was also a light outside of our room that was on all night and the wooden shades would not block out.

Nice place for SMALL gatherings, 50 or fewer.

Very beautiful hotel in a perfect location in the Old Town and a few blocks away from one of the Old Trolley stop. Our room was spacious. The staff was accomodating and courteous. Everything was very clean. If you don't want to use the stairs (many) you can always use the elevators. I would definitively stay there again!

We just stayed at this Hotel for 3 nights in January, this place is perfect the wife and I enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean and cozy, suite style rooms, the grounds are out of this world. The staff is very helpful and professional at all times, this Hotel is located right in heart of Old Town, walking distance to all the shops and food, which is some of the best food we've had in a long time.

We will stay here everytime we are in the San Diego area!

One Happy Couple

We just stayed two nights at the Best Western Hacienda. We had two adjoining rooms in the 600 building and our friends stayed in the 800 building. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The carpet was new. The front desk was helpful, although they informed our friends that they could park their RV in the parking lot across the street. This was not possible because parking spaces are minimal in this area. If you have an RV, I recommend parking it at a place called Campmor a few miles away. Great family hotel, great location.
