“Loved hearing the ocean from the room”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Like other reviewers, I have mixed reviews. The location can't be beat. The hotel is right on the boardwalk (a cement walk up and down the coast that goes for miles) and you can access it from the pool area. I love falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. Yes, it is loud but you're hearing waves! The beds are comfortable, shower great, rooms large (we had a king bed). There is internet in the room but it took us a room change and an hour with the tech support to find out all that needed to be done was to reset their router. The AC didn't work properly and it's very warm in the room without it, even with the door open and in March. Even with a maintenance person setting it, it didn't work. We were gone for 5 hours and the room actually warmed up. You can't get it down below 70 - way too warm for me. There's just no air circulation. The staff however bent over backwards to accommodate us and in the end we stayed there twice on different occasions. It's not cheap on the weekends and if it's crowded on the balconies, you're going to hear partying. There is an 11 pm cut off and wow, it was followed to the minute. And there is a charge for parking but it's worth it not to have to fight for a space on the street. Across the street, there is another large hotel that offers massage and spa services which I took advantage of because of a stiff back. And down the street there's another small taco place for Mexican that is incredible. So all in all, we probably will be back, just not from May-Oct because it's too warm unless the AC is improved.

Room Tip: Get one on the south side if you're a light sleeper.

Actually, this is a mixed review. The location is perfect if you are looking to stay on the Pacific. The rooms have balconies with direct Pacific views and they are a nice size. You can just walk out to the walkway and beach. I have to say...excellent pressure in the shower! (a little bonus). The hotel is fairly close to I-5, so getting around is easy.
What keeps this place from being excellent overall is that there is a confusing layout and the ceilings in the rooms are a little low. On a personal note...my room was not ready at 3 PM.
The location is very popular with families and surfers.....so it can be a little noisy (the walls don't seem to be that thick either). As per the location, there is a fee for parking and the lot is a little cramped.
Not a budget hotel...but good value for the location.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room that has either a partial or full view of the ocean. The other views are no...

Location right on Pacific Beach. Northward were many shops and restaurants. Southward it was residential and quiet. Easy to use car at all excursion destinations in the area.
The service at the front desk was very friendly and helpsome.

Room Tip: Ocean front is very nice, but the waves from the Pacific are loud.

We gave a review 2012 on this property because we stayed about 3 months and we liked this particular hotel so very much we booked it again for three months in 2013 to escape the cold northeast. Reuben the manager runs a very fine place. The Front Desk people Alma. Caesar, and Sal were most helpful-----in fact they consistently went the extra mile to please. Viri was most helpful when we checked in tmaking sure all our needs were met. It is a beautiful location, very clean hotel. The service people were very courteous also. Everyone is very accomodating. I truly can say after three months I could find no fault with the place. We are looking forward to going back there for another three months in 2014.The location to get to other attractions is great and when you return you are right on the water. to relax. They have fresh fruit served all day and home made cookies in the afternoon which our grand children love. I can't say enough nice things about the place . I would be very comfortable recommending this place to any of my friends..We live in MA. and our grand daughters live in San Diego. We stay here at Blue Sea Lodge to have our own place while 'bonding'

Mary

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ocean have a great view.and are very quiet.

This was a great place to stay if you want easy beach access and to watch the sunset over the ocean. The check in staff were very pleasant and assisted us when we couldn't figure out the cooling system. (it did come on a little later) We stayed in an ocean front room and enjoyed watching all of the activity on the beach and boardwalk.

What we loved... The location. Right on the beach & walking distance to so many restaurants & shops. We had an ocean front room & the view was amazing. The staff was great. Helped with directions, very friendly & so helpful.
What needs improvement... The property. This is an older hotel & is in some dire need of some TLC. In our room the heater/AC did not work, the carpet was stained & there was visible water damage on our ceiling. The common areas also needed some help.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay...
