Good rates for a beachfront room in a great location. Very friendly staff. Was unaware of the parking fee, but the price was still reasonable. I have stayed in nicer (more up to date) places, but for the price, the location, and the service, it is probably the best place to stay in the Mission Beach / Pacific Beach area.

Room Tip: Beachfront patio or balconies are fantastic. I would recomend a second floor patio or higher. On t...

We asked for a room with a view of the ocean and we got it. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were perfect. You can lounge by the pool and still watch the surfers.
Near by restaurants were great and a number of them also had wonderful ocean views.
The promenade that runs in front of the Blue Sea Lodge is the perfect place to people watch.

Great value for the money, ask for the room with ocean view and you will not be disappointed! If you are coming by in a car, prepare to pay $12 parking fee, however you will be offered cookies at the reception to numb the pain. Overall, 10/10 would stay there again, simply due to the location

Room Tip: get the ocean view

My husband and I stayed for 3 weeks in a spacious, well maintained suite with 2 balconies overlooking the beach. We were amazed at the professionalism, friendliness and dedication of the staff. Our rooms were always clean, all supplies were replenished immediately, a bathroom leak repaired within 20 minutes of our call. Breakfast in a little cafe downstairs was simple but served with care. The location is ideal: we drove to Balboa park and other San Diego City attractions in 25-30 minutes. La Jolla and Torrey Pines State Park were even closer. There was so much to see in San Diego area. Locally, Pacific Beach is a nice place with long white stretches of sand and good for the surfers. Plenty of eating and drinking facilities. Some of the best rated restaurants are in Pacific Beach and we visited them. We had a great time.

I've stayed here at least a dozen times over the years. Some remodeling has helped the place to stay fresh. Recently, I've asked for an oceanfront room, about $160 in Feb 2013, since that seems like a fair price for a scarce commodity. Watch out for the $18/day parking fee if you're driving to this hotel, but again, it's in line with the cost of very scarce parking space on/near the Pac Beach and boardwalk.
One note - my room this time was a "small" room for oceanfront, so had to store my bike in the car. Inconvenient. Also, the room's a/c was barely "breathing", so I removed the a/c grill and found the filter totally clogged. A disturbing lack of maintenance.. and on my previous visit, the thermostat didn't work, so had to move to another room. It does get into the 40s here on some February nights...

Also, the plexiglass surround for the large beachfront pool, was so encrusted with salt, that you could not see the ocean with any clarity.

I will continue to stay here; it's convenient to (right on) the boardwalk and to the beach and restaurants, and Sea World is just a few minutes away, the freeways are easy-access from the holel, and San Diego is just a beautiful place for a vacation at any time of year.

Room Tip: Book "partial ocean view" and beg for an "upgrade". This has worked for me befor...

We recently visited San Diego (Feb.10-15, 2013) to both hopefully spot some of the migrating whales and to explore the area. I was especially looking forward to the trip as it was my first opportunity to view the Pacific Ocean. After researching hotels on TripAdvisor, we decided on the Best Western Blue Sea Lodge. It fit both our financial requirements and provided me with a great location close to the ocean. We were not disappointed. Everyone associated with the hotel was friendly and accommodating. Mornings and evenings were a bit cool so we turned on the heat. There was a problem with the heater in our room; but when the first attempt to fix it did not work, the general manager moved us to an upgraded ocean front room. The room was spacious, well equipped and included two balconies overlooking the Pacific. Needless to say, we were very appreciative of the upgrade. My time spent viewing the ocean from our room was special and provided us with added memories of a great trip. Yes, the hotel does have some age on it. But as those of us with added age ourselves have learned, with age comes experience and maturity that more than makes up for a few needed repairs. And did I mention that well know phrase..location, location, location? What a nice Valentine's Day surprise!

If you want to be right on the beach in Mission Bay, this is the perfect location. We requested an ocean view room and when we check in we were upgraded to a ocean front room. The front desk people were all very friendly and helpful. Our friends stayed in a ocean view, street side room which was much larger. Pool on property. Free parking is available if you are lucky enough to find a spot in the public beach parking area right in front of the lobby.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are larger than ocean front.
