“Great location and staff”
Reviewed April 12, 2011

We recently stayed here during our California vacation. Best part of the hotel is the location - right on beach. We had a partial ocean view room that looked out to the Northwest side and we loved the view. We loved hearing the waves when the door was open too. Yes, the room décor needs updating, but it still served our purposes. It was clean, as we found nothing wrong with our room and yes we did look. Parking is $16 per night unless you can find free street parking right next to the hotel, as we did, so that helped. Maybe it was the time we were there, but we had no noise issues at all during our stay. I too wish that they would ban smoking in all areas of the hotel, but again we didn't have an issue. Loved waking up with coffee made in the room and then sitting on the balcony or going down to the pool area and looking at the beach and ocean. It was fun lying in the enclosed pool area, watching our kids play football, baseball, or whatever on the beach too. Best thing about this hotel is the location right on the beach, which is why we chose it and we were not disappointed in that. Also, the hotel staff was very nice, helpful and accommodating. Jason was also very helpful with our questions before we got there too. Cost would be a factor on staying there again, but we would stay there again if the opportunity would present itself and cost was not too high.

Room Tip: Great location

We found this hotel on line. We got a great perspective via satellite. It looked amazing! The beach was right there off of the pool! We thought it was too good to be true! But we were so pleasently surprised to be able to lay out at the pool and watch the surfers in the ocean! We opened our sliding glass door and stepped out onto the balcony and saw the sun set over the pier. We walked up a block and found an amazing little Italian restaurant with the best lasagna around. Then we Walked back to our room and soaked in the hot tub! It was a dream hotel! We will definetely return!

For those of you who might question a stay at a Best Western, question no longer. From the time we arrived when Jason the manger who was very busy accommodating everyone including us, he gave excellent service in light of the fact that he was flying solo!!! He checked our bags and let us use the facilities until our room was ready, (we tried to check in around noon early). We walked the beach and Pacific Beach town for a bit and then were greeted by Cesar, the desk clerk who was busy trying to accommodate calls and check-ins but made time for us and even offered us an upgrade to an ocean front suite which was WELL worth every dollar!!! The staff were smiling and helpful as well as pleasant and we had a peaceful night's rest! Great location and staff and management who make sure that your stay is comfortable and that you know the area as well. Thank you, Cesar, Jason, AND Lupe for making us feel right at home:-)

I enjoy going here because the location is right on the beach and walking distance to many attractions. Including restaurants, bars, etc.

Internet service is slow and intermittent...when staying here you should remember that the Pacific Beach & Mission Beach communities are; above all else; beach and party areas... attracting all ages...it can become noisy... but it is always stimulating... clubs; pubs and cafes are plentiful; within easy walking distance and the food is good quality; generous in portion; varied; and served at reasonable cost.. A Ralph's grocery is about 4 blocks away and has a great wine and liquor selection at very competitive prices..We have come back to stay here for 8 consecutive years...

Room Tip: request full ocean view or pool side suite..

The best part is that it is on the ocean (had a room with a partial ocean view) and the beach is your backyard. The not so great part is the cost - way overpriced (if you take out the location). The hot tub made extremely loud mechanical sucking sounds and had an interesting smell to it (don't ask!). The room decor desperately needs updating and the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired (found some left over cereal behind the TV). A $16 per night parking fee is assessed (there really isn't any other option) and there is NO continental breakfast. You would think for the cost - these two amenities would be included. Because it is located next to a public parking area on the beach, noise can be heard at all hours of the night. Smoking is allowed near the pool area - which certainly counters the enjoyment of the ocean air. Sadly, Best Western has become a "hit or miss" chain when it comes to quality. Although we were disappointed with the accommodations, there is still nothing greater than being right next to the ocean!
