Good experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 22, 2016
We loved our stay here as we were looking for a budget room with kitchen area, microwave, fridge and king size bed. It is not a great hotel but worth the price.Room was clean with free breakfast and free parking.
The best thing for us was that the Walmart was 10 - 12 minutes walk from the hotel.

The hotel is quite far from Downtown so we had to take cabs all the time. Right across the road there are a couple of really good restaurants, one Korean and one Mediterranean which are really worth the money! However that is just about the one good thing about it! The hotel is old, tired, the wifi is really bad - cannot stress that enough. The pool water is really dirty and they dont have showers so people go in leaving traces behind...The beds were the worst beds I have ever slept in and breakfast is comprised by coffee and a bagel or a small box of cereal. I once asked for milk to put in my coffee after breakfast had ended at 9.30am and I got a really angry face saying milk was only available at breakfast time. The cleaning staff are just about the one good thing about this hotel.

The California Suites hotel is a basic 2* hotel, with some minor pro's and con's.

Pro's. Convenient location (near major freeways, shopping, Walmart, restaurants). Self serve Laundry (4-5 machines). Refurbished and clean rooms, Nice pool, in room, Microwave and refrigerators, low cost (for San Diego).

Con's. Dated property, No elevators, slow check in, spotty wifi, limited breakfast (bagels, cereal, juice).

The hotel appears to have some long term residents living on the property. Overall, if you are looking for basic accommodations at a low price, the California Suites would be a good choice.

For what we payed to stay here for a week we were very pleased. Friendly staff, clean, comfortable room, nice pool, right next to the freeway, a good base to explore San Diego and the surrounding area.

Really good facilities. Kitchen, microwave, fridge, ice machine, laundry
I was here for training, so kitchen (for healthy food), laundry and ice machine (for injury) were necessary...This hotel was perfect for my needs...
Staf very professionale (Jessica change our first room that was too close to the street and noisy). Position is good (near gym and also near all main things in S.D.)
Breakfast is good, but kitchen is too small
Air conditioning is noisy...but all the rest is ok...parking is free and very easy..
VERY GOOD!

California Suites Hotel has an old school LA feel. If you appreciate grungy 80's style, then you might like this place. I personally liked the feel of it. The layout was confusing and labrynth-like. The room numbers don't seem to be arranged in any particular order, they are just kinda scrambled. We had a hard time finding our room, but we eventually found it and even appreciated the adventure. The hotel could seem a bit creepy due to the vintage aura and the fact that it seems like low life locals stay there when they have nowhere to go. We were fine with it but I know most people will not find pleasure in this place. Overall, the hotel was affordable with a grungy charm. Staff were friendly and helpful, and it's just a comfortable place to sleep at night.
