I was recently in town for a conference and was booked last minute at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown. It ended up being a great fit for my travel. The hotel is very close to the airport and about a mile from the San Diego Convention Center. Although I had a rental car, I was able to walk to meetings and restaurants. The hotel staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They offered tons of recommendations on dining, shopping, and tourist places of interest. The hotel is a little older, but generally well maintained and clean. The hotel also boasted a great shuttle service that takes guests to the local areas (Balboa Park, Fishmarket, airport) free of charge.
For avid exercisers, there is not a gym onsite.
Visitors should be aware that San Diego has numerous additional room fees. In addition to the per night fee, there is a fee to park nightly in the garage, California and San Diego tourist fees. This can easily add an additional $30-50 per night. This is in line with other hotels in the area, with the parking being less than some of the other major chains advertised parking fees.More
