This is an older property that is very well kept. We had a king room that faced the bay. The room was very clean and comfortable. The rooms have a small fridge, large flat screen TV's, comfortable beds and up to date bedding. This hotel is old school but in a very good way. All the comforts that you would need and expect. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety yummy selections to start the day. Parking was a small fee which I expected and not an issue. I will be staying here on my next visit to the area.

My wife and I stayed here with our three children for three nights in March. We had a roadside room but the view was still great. My son slept on the floor (sleeping bag and thermarest) and we still had lots of room. The rooms are a little dated but very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The views were amazing all the way around, the breakfast (hot, excellent quality, and different each day) was fantastic, and the pool was awesome. We swam every night and soaked in the hot tub under the stars. In the morning, my wife and I went jogging to somewhere different on the island or on point Loma. Access to the island from I-5 is very simple and parking is great. The price was a little steep ($149/night) but it was truely an awesome place to stay... I highly recommend this spot. I rarely rate a hotel as a five ... But this one gets a five for sure.

Overall, the hotel really was very good. For its price (and we got it through hotwire so we saved even more!), it's hard to complain. It's very clean, has a beautiful view as you're eating the free breakfast, and has helpful staff. We also loved the location. Being that our home is landlocked, we loved seeing the ocean every day of our week long stay in San Diego. It was also very convenient to all the attractions (Sea World, the Zoo/Balboa Park, downtown).

Here's what I thought could be better:
- The decor is old and the rooms need a bit of a face lift.
- At our first breakfast, they had a menu out with what we could expect as the main course each morning. Possibly because it was off season, they ended up not following the menu and weren't putting it out for customers to see any more. The breakfast was good, but repetitive.
- I was annoyed that we had to pay for parking. It isn't possible to do San Diego without a rental car (at least while on Shelter Island, or if you're like us and want to fit as much in as possible!), and so it doesn't make sense to me that they charge a nightly fee for parking. What other realistic options are there?
- We wanted to relax and watch a movie one night but our options were limited. We would have had to pay $10 to rent a DVD player and they didn't have DVDs to subsequently rent or borrow. Also, if you want to watch Netflicks, you have to pay for an upgraded Internet service, but their TVs aren't able to connect to Netflicks so unless you bring a decent sized laptop, that's not an option either. They do have HBO but even if they're showing something you want to watch, you have to make sure you work your schedule around the start time.

Overall, we really did love our trip and would recommend Bay Club as a BUDGET hotel option :)

We were visiting our Airman at North Island NAS and chose this hotel because of it being directly across the bay from his squadron. I called beforehand and asked if they could put us in a room where we could see the base and they did! Breakfast was lovely with ample fruit, bread, and protein choices, plus a view of the marina. The hotel is located right across the street from a walkway along the bay. 20 minutes to downtown or the various beaches. The room was spacious with a comfy, king size bed. The chair wasn't so comfy, but the desk was fine for working on the computer. The separate dressing and bath/shower areas were convenient for two. Our favorite feature was the large, sliding door that led to a balcony. We woke up to a different view of ships, humans, and seals every morning. The staff was very friendly and during our stay, we felt very comfortable and relaxed. We WILL be back!

Room Tip: Decide whether you want the marina side (little activity outside) or the bay side (lots to see on th...

My wife and I stayed here one night with our two young kids. The room had two queen beds and still felt very spacious. We loved our balcony overlooking the marina which made for a very relaxing evening and beautiful spot to have our morning coffee. The staff was very friendly. Amanda at the front desk welcomed us and even hooked us up with a coupon for their restaurant. On-site parking was cheap compared to other places in the area. We also loved Shelter island. There was a beautiful little beach across from the hotel and a fun playground for the kids. I imagine some day we will return for a visit to the Bay Club Hotel.

Room Tip: The marina side of the hotel is right on the water and very beautiful. The bay side has city views...

My husband and I were traveling home from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to Tampa, FL. We stayed for two nights at the Bay Club Hotel and Marina. The view of the Marina was beautiful and the room very comfortable. We had a king size bed with no smoking. The rooms were very large and accomdating. I enjoyed catching up on email with the free WiFI in our room. We were meeting relatives and friends on each of the two nights there so we didn't use much else in the beautiful hotel, but the staff was very accomodating and friendly. We needed an extra ride to a home nearby and they provided it. The shuttle to the airport was also easily accessible and on time. We would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in San Diego.

Room Tip: Ask for the Marina view if possible.

Right across the street is the Shelter Island Park - parking and a long stretch of walk along the entrance to San Diego harbor. Always busy with boats, fishermen, birds and walkers. One of the most pleasant of San Diego's sunny places and always something to see. Rooms are smallish but adequate even for a several day stay. Complimentary breakfast buffet is routine but again adequate. Room prices are very reasonable for San Diego. I have stayed there every year for over ten years and the hotel today is better than ever..
