What an amazing experience! Room was 5 star all the way! Staff super courteous and the hotel is massive and beautiful! Out in the middle of nowhere so the only surprise was they charge for parking! Felt a little taken advantage of there; it's not like a hotel in the city where space is limited. Considering the room was $500+ a night couldn't they throw in parking?

This review is mainly to the Duty Manager and General Manager of the hotel.

We were staying at the hotel on 2/8/2014, at room 145 and 146. When we checkout on 2/9/2014 morning around 8am. We left the luggage for bell-boy to pick up and store at front desk while we can have breakfast at Amaya. Prior to drop off, all Rimowa suitcases were in good shape. Upon leaving, the bell-boy loaded all luggage into our car so we didn't feel the need to check. When we arrived at airport around 10am to off-load, we were shocked to see one of the suitcase is majorly broken on the edge and clothes can fell off from suitcase. We had to re-arrange the suitcases at airport and was a big trouble.

The suitcase belong to my parents who are traveling out of the country the day after, you can imagine how much hassle it has caused the elders and it left a bad ending to our San Diego trip. The Rimowa suitcase is not an old purchase either and it is not fragile, so we are wondering how carefulness the bell-boy is, and how irresponsible he acted for not notifying us!

It's a beautiful hotel, we could have enjoy it a lot more if this never happened. I hope this can be resolved, and I truly think you need to re-train your staff at all levels.

thank you
linda S.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! We have stayed at MANY UPSCALE resorts but this one is OVER THE TOP. Their commitment to excellence is amazing. From the time you pull in to the resort until you leave. The attention to detail is 2nd to none. You will looooove this place. It is beautiful!! It was a bit cool to enjoy the pool and outdoors but VERY NICE. FOOD was very good as well. AWESOME. AWESOME. PLACE!

The place is absolute the most spectacular hotel and resort I've ever stayed in, including international resorts. It is flawless--from the service, staff training, condition, food, amenities, and location. The hotel is so magnificent that there is no area where the standard drops, such as in your room, the hallway, or a bathroom in the far end of the hotel. Not so much as a scuff on the baseboard can be found. I tried to find things wrong with it and came up with really short list: (i) no dressing rooms accompany the pools; (ii) they shine a large flood light on to the golf course at night which is completely not needed and tacky. They do have free parking if you self park, so you don't feel like they are trying to nickle and dime. GREAT PLACE.

Room Tip: Choose the south side in winter; north in summer

This luxury resort offers everything a fine property should have. From the attentive staff, to the beautiful grounds, the luxurious rooms and gorgeous common areas this is an uncompromising location to enjoy yourself and relax. While certainly not inexpensive everything here is far above average. The pools are beautiful, the golf course challenging and array of options for relaxation and action are great.

The rooms are opulent with marble bathrooms featuring soaking tubs, separate showers and double vanities not to mention a separate toilet alcove with a door and phone. My room had a great view of the surrounding hills and golf course and featured a very nice king bed, corner couch, flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi.

The only small drawback to this property is a lack of moderate priced dining especially later at night but this is a small price to pay for staying in the lap of luxury.

The resort offers an equestrian center, fitness classes, walking and seashore tours as well as complimentary rides within a 12 mile radius of the hotel for just a tip. Truly a great service if you do not want to drive.

Despite its rather large size, the Grand Del Mar does an amazing job in making it feel like you are staying in a boutique hotel. This hotel is by far the most well staffed hotel I have ever experienced - it is the perfect mix of someone always there to help you with what you need or get you something without feeling like you are outnumbered. The little things like the valet always having the top down on the car when they pulled it around and the cleaning service tying your charge cords in nice ribbon really went far. The rooms are nice and large, and they did a wonderful job in the architecture making it so that the patios on the rooms on the 3rd floor were unbelievably private, you barely even felt like you were in a hotel. The spa was fabulous, and it was nice to have the option of multiple pools to choose from around the property. By far the nicest tennis facility I have ever used. My only complaint is that the pool was unstaffed and pretty much shut down on a day that was overcast and under 70 degrees (but that's what I get for being a desperate East Coaster). All restaurants on sight were wonderful - must go to The Addison while staying there. Both casual options and café are also nice - the place does seem to fill up with locals around cocktail and dinner hour. Nice perk is that they do have a courtesy car available to go off site for drinks/dinner if you call ahead and plan ahead of time - only complaint here is that the courtesy car is a Sprinter, but a free ride is a free ride! :) Very much looking forward to returning to the Grand del Mar.

Room Tip: Worth getting a room on the 3rd floor.
