My husband and I were traveling to San Diego for the first time for a wedding and we were not disappointed by all that this wonderful bed and breakfast had to offer. We stayed in the Garden Cottage and were greeted by Linda and Norm upon our arrival. We entered the property from the rear of the property as our cottage came with one parking space located in the back alleyway. When we opened the gate to the backyard, it was as if we had entered a completely different world, an oasis away from reality. The sound of the soothing fountain was welcoming after a cross country trek. The pride Linda and Norm take in their property could be seen not only from the backyard, but inside our cottage. It was a studio room with a mini kitchen, faux fireplace, climate control AC, and all the amenities you would need in a space probably no bigger than 500 square feet. The furnishings were a warm cherry mahagony. The simple human accessories were a great touch. The fully stocked mini fridge provided more than enough food and drinks for us. We were amazed at how this house had been decked out with so much care, it was as if they were furnishing it for family to stay. The bonus came as I opened the fridge to find that everything was brand new. All the packages of waffles, french toast, muffins, juices, eggs, cheese were brand new, never opened so you felt like they had purchased everything just for you. Even more personal was the fact that there was plenty of fresh fruit! I'm a huge fruit fan, so I was ecstatic to find that hidden gem! After a full debriefing from Linda and Norm on all that San Diego had to offer, we went ahead and ventured out on our own. The huge binder in the room containing all you've ever wanted to know about San Diego was also a very nice touch, especially to first timers like us! We provided them with a schedule of when we wanted a change of sheets, fresh towels, food refill, etc and it was different because we felt like we weren't pressured to "housekeeping" hours. We just let them know when we would not be in the room and voila! During our trip, Linda and Norm were always available to us. I even managed to peek into their kitchen from the patio and it looked like it could be a spread in Architectural Digest. It was apparent that they had set up the cottages so that it was warm, inviting, and more like a home than a hotel. The saddest part of our trip was leaving and coming home to the not so soft sheets I had at home! Luckily, we ordered two sets before we left! Coming from NY, the price of the sheets were comparable to what I would pay here so I did not hesitate at all! These sheets are nothing like you've ever felt....it's heavenly! While the weather wasn't always cooperative, I took full advantage of sitting in their backyard oasis in the mornings and hearing the birds with my coffee. It was a welcome escape from life in busy NYC! We would not hesitate to come back and stay here! I dont' think I can ever stay at another B&B again as I know it simply will never compare! If you want a more personal experience in San Diego, I highly recommend Beach Hut B&B, where all the attractions are no more than 20 mins away but you are realms away from reality!
