The location: You are ten minutes away from the airport, towards Point Loma. This also means a fifteen minute drive to downtown San Diego, twenty minutes to Coranado Island, and thirty minutes to the coves of La Jolla.

The setting: This is a motel that has undergone an Ikea style refurbishment. Some of the higher priced rooms have new bathrooms; the cheaper ones still sport the originals from the days before the refurbishment. The restaurant and bar are busy during the weekend for brunch, late afternoon drinks and dinner. We didn’t eat here, but the locals seem to like the place. There is a small pool in the center of the courtyard, with Ikea style deck furniture.

The rooms: Mine was the middle category room with a dated bathroom; my friend opted for the best room type and had a modern bathroom. Both rooms came with small patios. The platform beds were comfortable. The flat screen TVs were nice as well. The boxed (not bottled) water was a nice touch. The water pressure was excellent but the toiletries mundane. WiFi was good but lagged at times.

All in all: This place is a great value, especially if booked ahead. If you are renting a car during your visit, stay here and save money. The place is clean and the location is great. There are lots of conveniences on Rosecrans, the main road fronting the property.

The Pearl Hotel has modern furnishing and is pretty clean. I liked the style a lot but the hotel is quite small. The rooms are located around the pool and the bar and restaurant. When we stayed there, the restaurant was closed. The staff was great, parking on the side streets or in the hotel park (has to be paid for) is possible.

We always agonize over what to do and where to be on New Years because who wouldn't want to end one year and start another in the most perfect way possible? The Pearl Hotel did EXACTLY that. From the delicious menu to the intimate setting to the amazing drinks, everything they did helped make it a memorable night. The staff is enthusiastic and extremely attentive, and we loved the vintage-modern decor. There is an incredible attention to detail in everything they do and it really shows.

Aside from the NYE party we loved the room we stayed in. It was quiet, spacious, comfortable, and even had a patio. The location is great; we walked to the marina in the morning and there is a whole host of fun things to do in the immediate area.

We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Room 9 is awesome. It's very spacious with a comfy bed and sitting area as well as a small balco...

Definitely worth it if you are
looking for a cool, good vibe hotel. Go for the king bed rooms for sure, the others are nice but kind of weird. We had room n 4 and it had a ceiling shower and an outdoor patio.

But the most important thing is that you feel in a place you want to be. Great atmosphere, room decor and a nice restaurant. For the price, couldn't find something better.

Dense fog on the coast didn't dampen the New Year's Eve at The Pearl! We had a table for 6 at the 8:30 dinner seating and enjoyed a terrific prix fix meal. The choices were limited but everyone raved about them. My wife doesn't toss out compliments lightly but though her steak was one of her best ever. The staff is always friendly and fun here and helped make the special night even more special. Love this place for food and drink - oh, yeah and they have rooms and a pool too! Which I understand was well-occupied in the early hours of 2014.

A few friends had mentioned the pearl hotel as the best boutique hotel to stay at in San Diego. I couldn't agree more. Especially after being a San Diego native. No matter what the season it's a destination. I had some work done on my place and had to stay at a hotel for a few nights. I decided on the pearl. First time staying there and I could not have been happier. The only problem was I didn't want to go to work once I was there. I ended up spending most of the day by the pool on my laptop "working from home". The room was fantastic and so was the service. Every greets you and the convenience of the smaller hotel is fabulous no need to take an elevator up a tower. This hotel is an oasis. Highly highly recommend this to anyone traveling and if anyone in San Diego needs a place to stay to get away for a night or a weekend. My only gripe is that brunch is only served during the summer months hopefully as the hotel becomes better known this will change because the food is so well done.

Thanks for the review. The Pearl Hotel does have a certain Palm Springs flair to it. 1960's motor lodge renovation into a great boutique hotel with exceptional service and experience. Glad you got to enjoy it and experience it. Come stay with us again soon. Tell a Friend.
