This is a very nice, large hotel. I travelled here on business for 2 weeks. The hotel is an all suite property. I had the 1 room suite which was an "L" shaped room with a full kitchen (full size frig with freezer, microwave, oven, stovetop and dishwasher). I had a little balcony (not really big enough to sit on, just more like a large window to open) which overlooked palm trees with a view of the water. Breakfast was plentiful and decent. I attended their evening reception/snack or whatever they call it - but it's actually a full dinner with salad. The location is about a mile or so from the airport but I never heard any noise that bothered me. The hotel has fitness rooms, but the one in my building wasn't really usable because the a/c wasn't working properly at the time. They also have laundry facilities which is nice when traveling on business or with the family. The location is great - close to downtown but far enough so you don't hear noise and such. Close to great supermarkets - Vons and Trader Joe's. Also some very nice restaurants in the area - Point Loma Sea Foods (which is also a fish market) and Pizza Nova (on the water with much more than pizza). This hotel has lots of free parking and is well-lighted at night. I'm coming back with the family in the summer to take a vacation in the area. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and they have walking paths.

We stayed here for 8 nights in April with our two kids (8/6) based on recommendations here on Tripadvisor. Our initial experience wasn't what we expected, as when we arrived we were told that the only room available was a first floor suite, which we discovered after entering was designed for handicapped guests, and as such featured a large bathroom with no discernible break between shower and the rest of the room. Meaning that taking a shower would result in water going all over the bathroom. The kitchen was small and cramped as well.

This wasn't acceptable for a family with young kids, so we went back to the desk and were told we could switch rooms the next day, which we did, moving to a much larger room on the 2nd floor.

After that, the stay was perfect. As others have noted the hotel features tons of amenities to keep kids and parents entertained. Highlights for us included daily breakfast buffet (though the eggs are always overcooked) featuring a variety of fruits, cereals, as well as waffles and breads/pastries. They also rotate a daily "meat" dish (either bacon, sausage, or biscuits/gravy). Other highlights included the sports court which we used most mornings for a bit of basketball, a pool table, free wired/wireless Internet, free Business center, complementary popcorn/coffee/tea in the rooms, large fridges, fully stocked kitchens, pool, jacuzzi, outdoor hot tub, outdoor terraces, and the surroundings which includes the USS Recruit, a training ship built into the ground, and the bay behind the hotel featuring walking/jogging paths. Across the parking lot is a small shopping center featuring about half a dozen places to eat (Sushiya and Oggis were very good).

Service was fine, we didn't have any problems, and the staff was very friendly. Rooms were clean and spacious. There is are outdoor gas grills but we never got to use them. Rooms are equipped with two flat-screen HD TVs with ample selection of HD programming and movies on demand. The only complaint about the room is that the pull-out couch is uncomfortable, but the main bed/pillows are wonderful (and they give you plenty of pillows). They also advertise a complementary light dinner Mon-Thur, though we never tried it.

The location is of course ideal, five-ten minutes from major tourist hotspots including the USS Midway, Gas Lamp, Old Town, and Seaport Village as well as Seaworld and Mission Beach and five minutes from the I-5 to head north to Legoland, La Jolla and other locations. Parking was always plentiful and close by.

Keep in mind this is a family oriented hotel, there are kids everywhere, breakfast is a bit crazy, and the hotel is pretty much quiet by 9:00 PM. There's no bar, but they do sell beer/wine at the pantry. A Vons grocery store is about 5 minutes away off Rosencrants street.

Overall though, we loved the place and would come back here in a heartbeat.

My family and i recently had the privilege of stayng in one of the superb two bedroom suites at this location. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed our short stay which offered not only a hot breakfast but also provided a light meal from Mondays to Thursdays. Housekeeping and kitchen staff were of great assistance and courteous in maintaining this very clean facility. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a location in the San Diego area.

The hotel was very nicely kept. There were military transient families that seemed to be up very early in the morning . The acoustics in the hallway were not good and doors were slamming early in the morning. Not a restful sleep for some of us who were on vacation. Otherwise, the meals were adequate. The only hotel that serves a light supper eventhough it was not the freshest food it was included in the price. Great location to downtown and airport.

We recently stayed in a 2-bedroom suite which was very comfotable. The hotel is very close to the San Diego airport and offers a complimentary shuttle to the hotel. They will send the shuttle as soon as you call them upon landing, There are many restaurants within across from the parking lot. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast buffet including waffles and hot items such as eggs & bacon. There's a public walkway along the marina at the back of the hotel. The pool area is very nice and includes a very hot whirlpool. There's also an outside fire place with seating. There's a third floor balcony on each building where you can watch the sunsets/sunrises. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. We really had nothing to complain about, and found it to be very enjoyable.

We stayed at the Homewood Suites for five days in early March with our college age son. I had called the day before arrival to see if we could get our Hilton Honors five night certificate upgraded to a two bedroom suite. After a bit of discussion (including a potential $50/night upgrade surcharge), we did end up with a complimentary upgrade and were delighted to have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and three HD TV’s. Our suite (466) was on the fourth floor looking over the central facility; if you looked sideways you could see the esplanade and canal. The room was very comfortable throughout our stay, and our son was delighted to go from a college bunk bed to a queen bed, private bath, large desk, and balcony. And free wireless, of course. Our room was on the corner which was great for lack of noisy connecting walls; the only problem was the closet in the king bed room was not really set up to hang things but fitted with a couple of wire shelves so we had to share our son’s closet. One bathroom was actually a handicapped room so we had plenty of space. The kitchen was well equipped although we barely used it. The beds were great.

The hotel was in an excellent location for us to get everywhere we wanted to go; everything seemed close by and it was only minutes to downtown. And it was very pleasant to be right on the waterway with a beautiful path past birds of paradise and palm trees. The planes did not bother us at all; the “white noise” of the room fan was enough to block them out. The breakfast was handy to have but it didn’t really seem like a lot of variety although the fruit and waffles were nice; we did eat breakfast out one day. It never got too crowded to find a table but it was close a couple of times. The two suppers during our stay were Swedish meatballs and meatloaf; although we ate dinner out we did stop by for salad, rolls, and a nice glass of wine.

We didn’t spend a lot of time in the hotel and it was a little too cool to swim, but it was very pleasant to come back to our little apartment every night and be able to spread out and relax (and nice to have a place to put the doggie bags from dinner). We only got a short look at Liberty Station when we went to the Von’s for sandwiches one day, and to get ice cream at Stone Cold another time, but it all looked like a very nice place to stroll. It would have been fun to be able to bike the grounds around but we didn’t see any rentals. We did drive by some big guns though and could picture the recruits learning how to shoot them.
