“Local Spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2013

We are locals and this is the local spot. The tortas are our fave thing here and order the "ranchero nachos (just cheese and sauce)".

I agree with most of the reviews, it's a great people watching spot however, tourists may find this place lacking. If you're looking for a cheezy tourist experience keep looking. We found the service to be hit and miss at this place. The drinks are delicious. This place is far from gourmet and far from yucky taco bell..it is be no means authentic either...it's just good inexpensive food.

“Taco bell food is tastier”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

I am Mexican..the Alamo is not authentic. The food here is bland, canned beans, bottled salsa (more like tomato) canned enchilada sauce. The nachos were not cheesy enough. Poor service. Quality is bad, not worth your money, it is better to eat at Taco Bell or del taco.
If you want authentic mexican food, look for hole in the wall taco shop where menu is in spanish. If you like bland/cafeteria/canned type food the Alamo is the place.

“Two Reasons to Eat Here, One Reason NOT to Eat Here.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

When visiting Old Town, the Alamo is an EXCELLENT choice:

(1) If you're looking for an inexpensive, casual, Mexican non-fast food type of restaurant, and/or;

(2) You only have a very limited amount of time to satisfy your hunger (as an alternative to waiting long to be seated and served, which is to be expected with nearly all popular restaurants in Old Town).

The Alamo is NOT your best choice if you are new to Old Town (a tourist) looking for an authentic Old Town experience, or you're a San Diego local looking for a good time with friends/family away from the daily routine.

Otherwise, you can always trust the Alamo for it's tasty food and quick & friendly service.

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

We came here after a tour, being totally exhausted from all the walking. We ordered at the counter some basics-nachos, tacos, quesadillas. It was good. Had some glasses of sangria that he whipped up and those were good, too. It was nice to kick back on the deck and relax. It was nothing to draw me back but nothing to scare me away either. I had no complaints.

“Delicious and quick breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

Though not a "true Mexican" restaurant, this order at the counter, dine on the patio establishment does offer some very delicious breakfasts! Order your dishes, get a tray of nachos, have a seat and enjoy people watching (is in Old Town).
I ordered the Huevos Rancheros Plate and it was more than enough to keep me going for the day, my friend ordered the Breakfast Burrito and said it was the best she ever had.
Do note that all seating is outdoors, so it may be a little uncomfortable on a cold or rarely wet day.
