Hyatt is trying to get hip, obviously seeing competition from the eclectic boutique Kimpton chain in major cities. Its answer is the Andaz brand. I was skeptical that Hyatt could capture the magic of the original Kimpton properties (a chain that's now hit and miss) but if the Andaz San Diego is any indication then Hyatt is on to something. The rooms are spacious, trendy and functional. Similar to Kimpton there's free wine in the lobby for guests from 5pm. The rooftop pool is a great place to unwind during the day. At night the rooftop turns into a high-priced outdoor nightcub with an attitude to match Las Vegas (that's not a plus, guys). The wi-fi was free and high speed and I could connect as many devices as desired. My only complaint: some staff mill about gossiping with each other about other staff or their personal lives. I did not drive to the hotel but be aware of the extortionate rate for valet parking for hotel guests, sadly something occurring at many hotels.

A nice and unpretentious hotel. Check-in was a breeze, and we were please with our room. Though it was very small (a basic king room), it was well appointed and comfortable. The complimentary snacks and waters were a nice touch!

The best part about the hotel is its location--just a block from all of the action on 5th Avenue. We loved being able to walk out the door to such great restaurants, bars, and clubs yet come back to a pleasantly quiet room.

I had a wonderful experience at the Andaz San Diego. Would definitely recommend and plan on staying there again on my next trip to San Diego. The staff was excellent, food was good, and rooms were very clean and quiet.

From start to finish, you could not have asked for better service from the people onsite. The location is perfect for great nightlife and close to the harbor as well. Rooms were a little on the small side but you won't spend lots of time there anyway. Great in-room amentiies (loved the free snacks and soda/water). Would definitely recommend.

Except for the priceyness of parking, everything about this property is a yes. The rooftop dining, bars and big screen televisions accompany your view of pretty much everything. Charger stadium, the Marina, etc. Hey, there is a very affordable and great place to have a great manicure and pedicure nearby, too. Beds and linens were very comfortable, conference facilities nice but very dark.
