The Keating Hotel by Pininfarina
Ranked #118 of 278 Hotels in San Diego
Reviewed June 8, 2014

The hot/cold shower handle did not work properly. The sink was too far forward causing a lot of water splash. The floors are concrete and cold (no big deal) The breakfast provided was inadequate. The staff were courteous and helpful. The location to the Gaslamp district is good.

If you like design, boutique hotels, hip spots and you´re going to p a r t y in San Diego; this is the hotel for you. If you´re a light sleeper... not so sure. The Keating rooms are stylish (the beds are great), the staff is friendly and is conveniently located in the heart of San Diego. But the street noise is intense, VERY intense... I did not stay in the weekend but can only imagine how louder it can get. The breakfast (you have to pay a mandatory extra fee for this and the use of a very good Internet wi-fi, so be aware) is a sad experience... and this would be something to improve if The Keating really wants to be a "luxury boutique experience like no other in San Diego"... it needs to improve its finesse... sometimes it takes more than a Lavazza espresso machine. It was a good stay, but it could be a memorable one, the hotel building is beautiful and the italian design quite pleasing.

Also: The hotel has no swimming pool, but you can use the little tiny small one on the rooftop of the Andaz hotel, 2 blocks away for the price of a cocktail.

Hotel was nice but too much noise outside and the room needs a bit of an overhaul as it is very 1980's. I was also charged boutique fee for all 7 days instead of only three. I think the hotel is nice but needs some more care.

We stayed in the room PhD. Room was so sexy and vibrant. The shower was wonderful to take a shower. Walking distance to a lot of the restaurants and bars. The only thing is that it does gets quite loud in the weekends.

Room Tip: Room PhD is one of the suites that overlooks downtown.

I stayed in the keating for 6 night. The first night is bad due to the noise from the bars downstairs, but next day I asked them to switch me to another room and it's quiet. Love the staff and the design. The bed is awesome!

This is not a bad hotel. However for what you get, it is expensive. Furthermore it is noisy which may put people off. Sometimes the room was not cleaned until late in the day which can be annoying.
Good points: Great location for the convention centre. Lovely front desk staff

LOUD, HOT and WEIRD
We like smaller hotels but this one was terrible. Prison like room and sinks (metal), cement floors, nice staff and bed but it was so loud in the room with street noise we could have been sleeping on the street.
Stay away from this hotel!!
