“Very Nice and Convenient Option for Staying in PB”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

We stayed five days in August to beat the heat in AZ. The hotel is right on the beach. Get a surf room for a good view. The hotel has a modern, but comfortable beach feel. The deck is great for sunbathing and it is nice to have food/beverage service on the deck. My tween daughters both highly approved of the room and hotel. The hotel restaurant is very good, and of course this is the middle of PB so there's a lot of other options as well. We want to go back!

Room Tip: Get a surf room for a good view.

We stayed for three nights and beside the modern and contemporary approach to hospitality ie, easy casual and welcoming staff for our arrival - free Internet, great beds, fantastic showers, spacious and soothing, modern decor the place was buzzing with lively hotel guests and local diners and bar patrons. In fact we dined three times at JNDR and for my daughters special birthday dinner as well. We could see no need to leave as the food and service was superb. Will look forward to returning.

Room Tip: If you are on a special trip DO stay in a front facing surf pad.

Brief family weekend getaway from the cold planned for sunny San Diego. We wanted beachfront, luxury comfort, family friendly hotel. Tower23 was just what we hoped. Comfortable, stylish, sophisticated, clean. One of the best boutique hotels we have stayed in anywhere. The location is perfect. Sounds and sights of the ocean (dolphins, surfers, crashing waves), memorable sunsets, and good food. The hotel staff were helpful and nice. Exploring the boardwalk and neighborhood of PB was easy. Also, cab ride to La Jolla for the day was easy for sea lion viewing, great sushi, and more exploring. Even though the hotel hosts an active bar and restaurant, the place quieted down early enough to get good sleep. Only thing missing? On site fitness facility and pool for swimming (wading pool is pretty but not a kid-getter). But with the beach and access to neighborhood gym, even that itch can be scratched.

Room Tip: We loved our ocean view (Surf Suite). Over the restaurant was noisy in the early evening, but no pr...

We recently stayed in the Tower23 Hotel in San Diego.
Even I do like Design Boutique Hotels, I was not exited by the reviews and the idea, to stay in a party place with my two little kids.
The design of the place is not really exceptional or anything special when you have seen really good design hotels, BUT it does the trick in that area. All other places around are traditional and old and worn looking, so I really enjoyed the clean and fresh and simple look of the place.
The Ocean view is great, the "square" (I call it like this) that connects the rooms in the "inner" side of the hotel, is inviting and the fountain nice. I like especially the lounging area right in the front, where you can sit as a hotel guest in the morning and enjoy a coffee and watch the ocean.
They have little tables (too little!) and two chairs in front of each room that faces the Square, where you can sit in front of your room. I liked that.
The stuff is REALLY friendly and the tolerated the downs that come with traveling with two small children. Cleaning service was also very friendly and not so complicated to order for an extra round.
The idea of having an expresso machine that provides free coffee, Latte, cacao in the morning for hotel guest next to the reception, is good - but they should work on the quality of the machine. Its cheap for a hotel that asks for over 250 US$ / night - if they would do better with that, I would forgive that they don't offer real breakfast.
Parking is expensive, but most of the time (only street cleaning and week ends are difficult, watch out for tickets!!!), I found a spot right in front of the hotel for free, not 20 US$ Valet...
The location is great, its nor far from sea world and the zoo, super close to the ocean and great dining around, even it is more of a student/Venice Beach Area compared to Santa Monica:)
You can walk around at night, I would avoid the Ocean Walk and Alley, some wired people there.
There is not really great shopping around, but some nice stores.
Overall - good place, a little to expensive for what they offer.

Room Tip: Ocean View is worth the money

Chic, modern, sophisticated, upscale atmosphere in the restaurant.
Fabulous menu choices with the latest food trends prepared with innovation and creativity.
Eight of us there together and we all loved what we ordered.
Great place to go with friends. Not the usual Pacific Beach hang-out.

The accommodations and the staff were all truly amazing. We are usually very low maintenance and this trip we weren't, but the answer was always, "my pleasure" and their recommendations were spot on for activities. 1000 Thx!

An uber-cool hotel with a superb location!!! This low-rise contemporary hotel is right on the beach - you only need to walk out the door and you are on a beautiful, long, surfing beach! You can walk on the beach itself or on the promenade beside it. The view of the beach and coastline from the small balcony of our room was fabulous! The decor of the hotel was very hip and artistic, all done in ocean colours. The rooms were a good size with very comfy beds. The restaurant at the hotel [we had lunch] served delicious food with ample portions. Oh yes, also delicious cappucinos [and I am a coffee snob!]. Next time I am in San Diego, I will be staying at this fabulous boutique hotel!!!

Room Tip: top floor for more quiet room
