The San Diego Convention Center is a sprawling facility that hosts hundreds of events every year, and there’s good reason for that. The facilities themselves are excellent, with wide corridors, huge rooms, numerous large restrooms, and lots of parking. What really separates San Diego from other convention destination is the location of the Center. There are plenty of hotels of various price points nearby, the historic Gaslamp Quarter with its many excellent restaurants is adjacent, and there are great views of San Diego harbor from the convention center. That’s in addition to San Diego’s mild, comfortable weather.

So, if your company or organization is holding a convention or conference at the San Diego Convention Center, by all means go and find out why San Diego bills itself as “America’s Finest City.”

The convention I attended was about 6000 people and used about half the facility. Think of it as being in thirds. The middle third is a large showcase area for vendors to display their wares. The thirds on either end support ginormous meeting rooms and then smaller classrooms.

The food service for our event was terrible, and generally consisted of food service type chicken, beef, eggs, muffins, bagels, etc. combined in different ways each day. Some more successfully than others.

There are some nice camera shots to be had here, the place is well designed and aesthetically pleasing. The middle part has an impressive set of stairs that lead from the street out front, over the top and to Embarcadaro Park on the ocean side. Gives the notion that someone said "of course we will keep beach access for residents!" and this is what happened.

All in all a nice convention center with many nearby hotels and activities.

Each summer for 15 or so years I have attended an international conference at this convention center and, as a conference attendee as well as a planner of technology conferences, I give this location high marks. It is huge but it is also world-class and one of the few venues that can support conferences for 15000 or more people. It is ideally located in a beautiful area that offers a lot to do when you are not at the conference. There are many scales (prices, sizes, and styles) of restaurants, hotels, shopping, etc. nearby this center. The area around the outside of the center is well designed and maintained; they obviously take pride to keep this place in good order.

While this is a very large facility I find it offers what I need and does so with relative ease. If you stay in a nearby hotel, first of all they are pretty nice, but the access to the center is easy. The facility offers many types of spaces and each function I have ever needed or attended has been made just right for the purpose and the time.

It is easy to get tired attending a conference in a mile-long building but the center offers many places to hang-out and to rest, the coffee shops are plentiful and capable of managing a large number of customers in a short amount of time. I have noted each year that there are always plenty of easily identifiable staff members to help direct me and to answer my questions.

if you get the chance to attend an event here I suggest you try it out; you will appreciate the center and its amenities as well as all that the surroundings offer.

It is huge, but easily navigated. The mangers and care takers do a great job. The town is inviting and when you are done at your convention, you have places to go, and things to see.

I have attended conventions here two times - once in 2005 and again this month, December, 2013. This is an exceptional convention center and it is a delight to be at a conference here. First of all, it is huge but user-friendly. Everything is well marked and accessible. The technology used during sessions, both large and small, is crystal clear and high end. Audio and visual were great. Chairs, tables and all other furnishings were functional and comfortable. Restrooms are huge and clean. Food was average to above. There are places to purchase drinks, snacks, etc as well as complimentary spring water (in large coolers) throughout the session rooms. The elevators and escalators are smooth and efficient. Staff is friendly and efficient as well. I felt safe, as there was a lot of visible security on site at entrance points. The convention center is also very well lit at night.

Also - the location is great - you are along the water and there is indoor and outdoor space to enjoy. Some of the views from the convention center are of the bay. There are excellent restaurants and attractions within walking distance (i.e. Gaslamp District - the best!). There is public transport nearby and the convention center is a ten minute taxi or shuttle from the SD airport. I go to a lot of conferences and this is my absolute favorite city for these events!

One fun suggestion - wear a Fitbit, a pedometer or another type of activity tracker and walk, walk, walk! You will see how the steps and miles add up while attending a convention here!!
