“Breakfast@World Famous”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

World Famous, a longtime beachside restaurant, continues to please with their breakfast choices. As regulars, we have sampled many of their omelets & egg dishes ...and there's something for everyone on the extensive menu. Try anything that features the carne asada, which is very tender & flavorful. Last week I had the Carne Asada Benedict...very delicious. All the Benedicts are served on foccaccia bread rather than English Muffin; poached eggs cooked to perfection and IMHO, World Famous' breakfast potatoes are the best. Husband had the Cobb omelet with many alterations, ie leave out tomatoes, extra crisp bacon, etc/etc. No problem, it arrived to our table as ordered. This restaurant is excellent for tourists & locals to enjoy the crashing waves and interesting beachy crowd.

“World ho hum...”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Well, we found ourselves staying near this restaurant and it had been recommended to us by a local in the neighbourhood.

I was underwhelmed when we visited.

For various reasons we ended up here both for dinner, and then breakfast the next day. Dinner was crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. There were 4, and, there was far more mushroom than crab in a fairly watery sauce.

We had salads as our main. My travel partner had the shrimp salad (with overcooked shrimp), I had the ahi Caesar salad. I found mine rather bland and lacking in dressing, though the Ahi was seared nicely. Drinks were nothing special, though I will say that my South African wine spritzer was probably the highlight of my meal.

For breakfast the next morning we returned as with the high winds it was a Hobson's choice, as the only nearby place to eat that was out of the wind. The coffee was weak, though it came with free refills. Breakfast itself (2 poached eggs with bacon, and bland huevos rancheros) took quite a while to arrive - about 30 minutes.

I tend to judge a restaurant on whether I could have done a better job at home... and for this restaurant, there was no question that I could have made better at home, both for dinner and breakfast. The restaurant certainly does need to up its game - it would be nice if the food matched the name and the ocean view.

“Beach Classic”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

A favorite of both locals and tourists alike, World Famous, right on the boardwalk overlooking sand and surf at the border of Pacific Beach (PB) and Mission Beach (MB), is the ultimate beach restaurant: whatever you want it to be.
Just want a draft beer or a margarita? Belly up to the indoor bar and enjoy a cold one overlooking the ocean in a casual, laid-back environment. Joining a few friends for brunch? Book a table on the glass-enclosed patio overlooking boardwalk and beach for spectacular people-watching over breakfast or lunch. One of my favorite aspects of World Famous is the tremendous variety of the menu-- you can get practically anything you want, from fish tacos to burgers to Lobster Benedict to authentic Posole or Chilaquiles. The food is always well prepared, served hot, with minimal wait. Out-of-town visitors? Bring them for dinner in the dining room. While the environment is more beach bar than formal restaurant, the chef is quite talented and the dinner menu offers some of the freshest, tastiest seafood in San Diego. The wine list is small but well chosen, and prices are quite reasonable. World Famous offers spectacular specials Monday through Wednesday in the Bar area: all the items on their Bar Menu (which is extensive and creative, far from the usual "bar food") are half-price on Mondays, our regionally famous Fish Tacos are on special Tuesdays, and their spectacular Lobster Tacos are only $1.75 each Wednesdays! Overall, World Famous is like an old friendship: always comfortable, always satisfying, always there.

“Great Beach Restaurant”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

We recently stayed at the Mission Beach area and were recommended by ou rhotel to go to this restaurant for lunch. That was a great recommendation.
The menu was varied, mainly fish but a few meat dishes as well.
The lobster tacos (of which I was leary being from New England) were great with good lobster flavor. The calamari is California style ( large strips instead of East Coast rings) and tasty with a couple of good sauces. Fish ( halibut, tuna) were properly cooked, and well presented with great taste.
The view of the beach and people watching added to the fun.
Service was pleasant and friendly, prompt and gave us good recommendations on what to try on their menu.

“Really good tacos on happy hour”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Wow really good tacos for a good prices. 3-4 shrimp tacos got me full for $1.25 each. Thought they were going to be small servings but they were huge. Nice and friendly staff.
