Thanks to all the volunteers and people that keep this treasure in great shape. It is a good day of exploring and learning about how these floating cities work.

Spent 4 hours checking out a living museum. Staff were very knowledgeable and veterans were on hand to answer questions and talk about their experiences. There were planes from several eras along with simulatorsso you can experience flying. Absolutely worth it for the history buff and airplane enthusiast.

Loved this old aircraft carrier! We went on Veterans Day and it was a wonderful experience. Plan on at least a half day, it’s a big ship! Beautiful views from the flight deck!

We came with three young kids. They have a little kids program where they can answer questions on a little hand out by going to the various audio playing devices around the ship and listening for the right answers. When they finish, they get wing pins. My kids really enjoyed doing this. They also liked sitting inside of the cockpits and helicopters available for people to go in. The only reason I'm giving this 4/5 is because there was a grumpy docent on the flight deck who was rude when my kids asked him a question. We had walked by the audio device that played the right answer for them without noticing it, so when we approached him to ask where to go to find that audio device after several minutes of looking around unsuccessfully ourselves, he begrudgingly directed us to the right area. As we were walking away we heard him say that kids don't know how to work hard anymore. I was a little disappointed in his attitude. The guy at the info desk that gave our kids the pins was great though.

The Midway is a fun experience right on the pier downtown. There are several historic planes on the top flight deck and in the hangar to see. Most were from the Midway's heyday period (60s, 70s, and 80s). The most disappointing part of the ship was the bridge tour - don't bother waiting in line for this. The docent who gave the tour was sarcastic, flip, caustic, and not at all informative. The best part was a talk given by another docent about the landing / taking off processes and how it worked and evolved on the ship. He was wonderful. Parking is pricey but available right by the ship.

It was a great visit to this historic US Navy aircraft carrier! All the volunteers were very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the ship. Plan on spending 3-4 hours to see his historic aircraft carrier.

It's good place to go with your teenagers.
Best time to go: in the morning (10:00 am) - open time of the museum - to avoid crowd

Did this tour as a last minute decision & very glad we did.
Very interesting and the staff are all knowledgable.
I would say you need at least 4 hrs to get round and much longer if you want to see everything

I have been on British warships and submarines in the UK, but really underestimated the sheer size of the Midway! The plan was to spend the morning on there however ended up spending around 5 hours on board! Pick up the audio tour after you enter the ship, this gives lots of stories and information about the ship. The volunteers there are so dedicated and have amazing stories to tell. The highlight was talking with a ninety four year old gentleman who was a pilot onboard the ship in the late 1940's. So much to see and do! Don't miss below the decks including the galley and medical bay, which gives an insight in to how the crew lived. Another thing not to miss is the "Island" tour, look out for the signs on the flight deck. You may have to wait in line, but it's worth it to see the chart room, flight control and bridge. A must see in San Diego.
