Owner description: Located in downtown San Diego, the USS Midway (Museum) was America’s longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century. Today, the interactive museum is an unforgettable adventure for the entire family as guests walk in the footsteps of the 225,000 young men who served on Midway. Visitors explore a floating city at sea, the amazing flight deck and its 29 restored aircraft, flight simulators, and are inspired in the Battle of Midway Theater, included with admission. Admission also includes a self-guided audio tour narrated by Midway sailors in English, Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, French and German. Visiting Midway is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in San Diego, known around the world as "Navy Town, USA."

Absolutely great tour! We landed at about 1200 noon in San Diego, picked up a rental car and arrived at the Midway (a few miles from the airport) by 1pm. It took us about 3.5 hrs to tour the boat and we did not spend a lot of time at any one exhibit. We were also lucky that our wait for the tour of the bridge was only about 10 minutes or so... I understand the lines can be long at times, but they were not long on the Sunday afternoon when we were there.

If you are visiting San Diego and your time is limited, I recommend you tour the USS Midway over Balboa park or Old Town. The Midway and the whale watching trip we took was the highlight of our San Diego trip.

Had to be over 30 aircraft on deck, walking tour with audio, docents who are veterans, great "guided tour" once you reach the island (they'll explain what the "island" is on the tour). Don't miss this in SD, as I have for years . . . until I made this trip!

Really enjoyed learning and looking and listening to the vets. Must have been a sight in action! Everyone seemed to enjoy - young and old.

Went on Feb 13, 2013 with wife and another couple. Really enjoyed the experience to walk around the flight deck and see the planes up close. They have it open so you can touch them and get up close with them. There is a trainer plane in which you can sit in the cockpit and a few helicopters you can go into as well.

We also had a tour if the island of the ship and saw flight control, Captains bridge and Navigation deck. Very interesting and well explained.

My only regret is that if you enjoy listening to audio tour and taking your time, you will need much more than 3 hours. We ran out of time because we got there about 2pm. Didn't even see the lower decks!

I normally do not like touristy/museum type visits, but we had some time on our hands went on the USS Midway. It was a a great visit, very interesting. I particularly like stories/descriptions from veterans who had first hand account of the equipment. I didn't listen to the audio self-tour and didn't want to stand in line for the captains deck, though I am sure that it was good.
