Description: Cafe 222 has been the local dining institution for nearly 25 years in San Diego. This quirky-corner eatery has become famous from it's many appearances on the Food Network and for the owner who from time-to-time can be found wearing a waffle on her head. This shoebox-size of a restaurant has plenty of seating, offers indoor, street side patio dining as well as an upper garden patio area. Dogs and kids are welcome with well-behaved parents. Reservations are not accepted but if there is a wait to get in, it moves quickly and the staff passes out banana bread and coffee to those in line to make the wait more pleasant.

Huevos Rancheros fresh orange juice and bottomless coffee we're excellent. Friendly staff and a nice pavement-side table. Will probably go back another day.

The inside is kind of small, but great service, and great food. Would definitely go back there again.

“OMG, B&G made with cheese biscuits!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

I had the famous peanut butter & banana stuffed french toast but my spouse had the biscuits and gravyade with cheese biscuits. The biscuits were crisp on the bottom and soft and moist in the middle. Topped with scallions, such a savory morning dish. I kept sneaking bites. Big portions, so I am looking forward to a little afternoon snack.

Great location, outdoor with lovely setting and garden seating. Casual atmosphere and good food. Service can be very slow.

“Forget breakfast in your hotel-come here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

I sat down at 7 AM when they opened, ordered at 7:05 and served at 7:10. Tamales and eggs were awesome. The service was friendly as was the atmosphere. This place is for real.
