Excellent Hotel, rooms are big and bed is great. The pool and bar area are amazing. The hotel is in the perfect gas lamp area to enjoy all the restaurants and clubs. The restaurant was great there as well. Next time I head back to San Diego this is where I am staying!

Having travelled for two weeks from San Francisco via many stops and basic motels, we wanted a little bit of luxury at a realistic price. The Hotel Solamar provided this and more.

The staff were very friendly and informative and always went the extra mile. Nothing was too much for them.

Great location in the Gaslamp district.

Pool area excellent with a heated pool, where we could enjoy a beer whilst in the water. Treated like adults!

Rooms clean and spacious. Free wine in the afternoon and coffee in the morning.

When leaving for the airport, the valet drove us himself in the hotel car without charge. Excellent service.

Highly recommended

We had such a fantastic experience at the Kimpton Palomar in Philadelphia that we couldn't stay any place else when transiting west through San Diego. The main think about this chain is service. The staff is gracious and helpful. This particular hotel had lovely rooms and common space, plus is welcoming to pets (we were pet free, but they did it well!). We came in from NY and after checking in went to the roof top bar/pool area. It is a physically lovely space. We had dinner at the bar and among the things we ordered was a flight of olives. I have to say they were the best olives I have ever had. Later that evening, (really not late but we were adjusting to the 3 hour time difference), there was a knock at our door and there stood a gentleman with a jar of home-cured olives on a silver tray! it was a wonderful experience. We always check to see if there is a Kimpton hotel where we are traveling.

My wife and I attended a business conference at this hotel and found the hotel to be very convenient to the downtown tourist area. The bed was comfortable and the thermostat did allow us to drop the night temp to a setting we like to sleep at. The service was excellent. However, there were only a couple of drawers which made it inconvenient since we basically had to live out of our suitcases for three days! This is the only drawback to staying here.

Dear Traceplace,

Thanks for joining us and thank you as well for the feedback about the room design. While we do have large storage dressers in our closets there might be some opportunity for additional space. We're in the very preliminary stages of discussing a refresh of our rooms for next year, so this is great feedback for us! Thanks again for joining us and we hope to see you back soon.

Great hotel in a lively, close in section of the Gaslamp district in San Diego. Close to Petco Stadium, the waterfront, night spots. The reception group was extremely helpful, the provided mapquest directions to anywhere you wanted and were always pleasant. The room was nice, the common areas well decorated and laid out. Great open air 4th floor bar and seating area. We used Priceline and got the room for $120, much lower than the quoted rate

Fantastic hotel with great rooms! Service was good, rooms were clean. The only downside - our room was overlooking the rooftop of a local nightclub so we fell asleep listening to the loud bass from the music. Otherwise great place and would go back again.

Room Tip: I think we were in room 1001 which is where the noise was so you probably want something on the oppo...

Dear Mtxstarr,

Glad you joined us, although I apologize for the lively neighborhood! There's not too many challenges that arise from a city with such amazing weather, but one of them is that a lot of the bars and restaurants in the Gaslamp are outdoor. That can lead to some issues with noise from time to time! One great room tip; ask for a higher room overlooking the East Village (also known as the Ballpark District). There's less noise emanating from the local clubs there. Hope that helps and please come see us again.

We randomly booked this hotel online for a quick trip to San Diego. We couldn't have been happier with the location, the hotel itself, but most importantly the service was wonderful. Every staff member was incredibly welcoming and helpful and greeted us with a smile every time they saw us. The rooms were great, very comfortable and well decorated and perfect size. I have no idea when we would ever be back in San Diego, but if we do we would stay at the Solomar without a doubt!

Dear Katie R,

It's music to our ears! Thanks for the kind words about our team. They're the engine of our success so it's very rewarding to see their work get recognized. Please do find a reason to come back to San Diego soon. If you can't do that, look forward to the Kimpton Hotel opening in Milwaukee next year!
