Being a sushi aficionado from that first and foremost sushi-addicted city, L.A., I can vouch without reservation that former L.A. Chef Ota's offerings here need take no back seat to any other bi-coastal city's finest sushi outposts.
Tried to book a second night in a row right there and then at our first extraordinary fish fest here, but as local fans know, reserved seating at Ota is a premium San Diego dining bid.
It's a small joint obscurely tucked away at one end of a busy intersection strip mall, but you'll get parking and possibly, even walk-in seating, if you come at or close to opening time.
Bar seating is limited (there's also table seating in a separate area with standard menu fare) but imperative to enjoy an ongoing show of the skillful construction of visually-arresting edible masterpieces before you.
Treat your sushi chef to a nip of Sapporo to enhance the bonhomie between you and stimulate his creativity to greater heights on behalf of your dazzled eyes and enchanted palate. And have no doubt about it, the skill, creativity and freshness of fare is nonpareil here.
The best part of this deal? Sushi Ota's pricing, in comparison to larger cities, is a great deal!
So if you gotta have sushi, get Ota's sushi!
