Description: For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).

“Big Portion Pulled Pork Sandwich +Intense Smoky Flavor”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Went at lunch, with out the door line of 15-30 min. I took it to go. I was disappointed that none of the usual sides, like mac & cheese, corn bread, or fried okra were to be had. I had the potato salad, which was red potatoes and crunchy. My pulled pork sandwich was over-flowing. It was really, really, smoky. It came back to haunt me for several hours. The meat was very flavorful and not fatty. A real plus, and for $7 for the sandwich an excellent value. Just 10-minutes from the airport, is this location. I mentioned Phil's to other locals, & they too like Famous Dave's BBQ better. Dickey's even at DFW in Texas, is better too, as are the two BBQ joint chain in Durango, CO. For me the smoke was way over the mark, & what's up with no BBQ joint sides!

“Best BBQ in town!”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

Phil's isn't just a meal - it's an experience. The sauce is sublime - a spicy mix of yumminess that tops some of the best BBQ ever.
Way to go, Phil - you've nailed it!

“Good ... for an assembly line.”

For the best ribs in S.D., I prefer Casa Adams! Check 'em out. Less expensive, more ribs/better ribs per order, no long wait for your food. Phil's is over rated.

“Beef ribs are really good”

Chicken was a bit dry. Long lines are a turn off. Better to call in and wait less on the pickup line.

“LOVE LOVE it!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Went to Phils after seeing it on Man vs Food and was not disappointed. The food was great and prices reasonable. Took several colleagues here after enjoying it myself first. Multiple meats smoked and plentiful portions. Lines can be very long so I suggest going early or being hapoy to wait!
