“Small town feel in the city”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

My husband and I had breakfast here before going to the zoo on Monday. Delightful. We sat inside at the counter and had a nice conversation with a local who made this his stop every morning. Everyone very friendly and food was delicious and very reasonable.

“A San Diego Treasure”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

No trip to San Diego is complete without breakfast at the one of a kind Big Kitchen Cafe. It's always delicious and always fun. Owner Judy "the Beauty" was California Woman of the Year in 2005 for her outstanding dedication and service to the people of San Diego and California. If you like liberal politics served up your food then this is the place for you!

“Awesome FUN place to eat. Very 60's hippy style”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Lines on weekends for breakfasts. Open for breakfasts and lunch. Whoopi Goldberg worked here before she was famous. Owner Judy the Beauty is awesomely friendly and greets all the guests at their table. This place is just FUN. Great food. The coffee cake is a MUST. Homemade and huge and warm. I eat here monthly. 2 separate dining rooms and back outdoor patio. Counter space avail as well. In San Diego this is a MUST see. Very popular with us locals.

“Eclectic World Culture Breakfast Spot”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

Just looking for a place for breakfast not far from Balboa Park and stumbled apon this jewel.
This is far more then just a breakfast spot, but the center of one of the more interesting and diverse areas of San Diego. The artsy world culture vibe hits you immediately when you walk in. The vibe is not the only things that his diverse, the menu is as well. Many dishes named after local and big time celebreties (Larry Himmel to Whoppi Goldberg), with just about anything you ever wanted for breakfast. I had the Larry Himmel chorizo/egg scramble and it was great. The pancakes here are huge and delicous (just had a sample). The service was very friendly, helpful and fast. My only complaint is the seats at the bar are not very comfortable, but the booths and tables are just fine. I highly recommend this place for both awsome food and incredible atmosphere.
