My wife and I visited the museum in November and were the only visitors while we there. They have many old guns, a detention cell, motorcycle with the radar gun which you are welcome to sit on. Upstairs is a court room where you can put yourself on trail. Much more.Very nice relaxed atmosphere and a small donation if you are so inclined. Everyone can enjoy a visit.

Up the street from Old Town State Park is a museum not to be missed. The Sheriff Museum of San Diego is great. First off, its free but get some karma and make a donation. There are tons of exhibits regarding law enforcement including a jail area, firearms room, search and rescue and swat. The last room is a very moving exhibit remembering deputies killed in the line of duty and other honorable actions that have merited acknowledgement. The docents are very nice and many of them are retired deputies. Be sure to check the museum out.

It's free! They have a lot of interesting artifacts here. One room has a large assortment guns. They have old police cruisers & a helicopter that you can get inside.

Happened upon this museum while visiting old town with friends. The San Diego Sheriff's Dept. had the foresight to save everything!!! It was really fun to visit, and the museum facilitated spirited talks and reminiscence with our friends. Free with donations accepted. Highly recommend a stop here.
