I live in San Diego, and I booked a room at Residence Inn Del Mar because I wanted to see this new Marriott property. I was thrilled. I assume you are familiar with the Residence Inn extended stay concept. Full kitchens paired with highly usable work space in an environment that might appeal to families as much as business professionals. So what sets this Residence Inn apart from the rest?
First, it's brand new. Next, the architectural design is done really well. And then, it really well-positioned in Del Mar. Finally, it represents tremendous value.
Besides what has already been said in previous reviews, I would like to point out a few features. The complimentary underground parking has plenty of spacious parking spaces. The elevator requires a room key to access guest levels, which is an added security measure. The Marriott Hotel next door offers a restaurant discount to Residence Inn guests. Internet access is speedy. Rather than a bath tub, rooms have a walk-in glass shower, which I loved.
I would recommend booking a one bedroom suite. The suites are a little more than the studios, but the suites are all corner rooms, so you get windows on two sides. The suites are large, luxurious spaces. There is no hotel in the neighborhood that gives you so much space for the value of Residence Inn Del Mar. And a complimentary breakfast every morning.
I would also recommend joining the Marriott Rewards loyalty program. I took advantage of a 2500 point per stay bonus to earn more than 4000 points for a single night stay in conjunction with the Marriott Rewards Premier VISA Signature card from Chase.
Now lest you think I am some ringer that the hotel paid to write a great review, I will mention a few negatives. Because whenever you review a hotel property, you can always find negatives.
The pool is tiny. This is not a place to go swimming. Go to the beach, it's a short drive away. The parking garage with those spacious spaces is dusty and dirty. The garage needs a power wash.
That being said, I can't wait to go back. If my family comes to visit me, I will recommend they stay at Residence Inn Del Mar.
