“Amazing flavorful Indian Food!”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

Amazing 1st time tasting of Indian food!
Incredible explosion of flavors! So glad I
stopped by w/ Sue to have a late lunch. (Got there @ 3pm as they were opening up)
The Samosa appetizer was tasty as well as the Tikka Masala, Saag+, and warm naan sesame flat bread= yum. Large quantities, great prices. Very clean with amazingly friendly staff. I can't wait to come back with friends! Ideal location in O.B.

“Solid Indian food at a great price”
Reviewed April 14, 2013 via mobile

Don't miss it ... literally. There is only a small sign in the window. Turns out the owners share the space with a cafe that's only open for breakfast and lunch. At night they convert the small dining room. The menu is limited but complete with the most common Indian fare. The food is great. The prices are excellent. The staff is very friendly. It's self service - you'll order at the counter and scrape your own plates, which are small plastic tubs, but that just adds to the experience. Sundara is a great pick for a casual dinner with a friend, spouse or small family.

“No long treks required to get to India”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

The Point Loma Cafe in Ocean Beach has been taken over! And it's a good thing. After 5 pm the "Sundara" sign is hung out and fine curry spicy aromas begin to waft out onto the street.
An authentic tandoor (clay oven) gives the marinated tandoori chicken and homemade cilantro or sesame naan bread their unique roasted deliciousness.
Order two chutneys in their little cups, one is never enough, fresh mint or tamarind chutney are great naan dippers . Need something to cool off your mouth after setting it on fire? A delicious creamy cold mango lassi to drink or yogurt cucumber raita will restore you.
The curries are complex and alive with fresh spices ground in their own kitchen. Vegetarian lentil or garbanzo bean curries offer a satisfying balance of flavors.
You can order Tikka Masala (tomato-based with ginger, lemon, herbs and spices) Saag (spinach and onion) and Vindaloo (red chiles and garlic) to which can be added chicken, vegetables or paneer, those wonderful cubes of homemade soft white cheese. Curry dishes served with basmati rice.
There is limited and plain dining space (a couple of outdoor tables too), but it's a little beach cafe. They've put all their energies into a simple but unfailingly epic menu and will deliver locally or make it up to go.
Sundara is already getting a reputation. No longer do you have to go on an odyssey into the city for Indian food. The owners are pleasantly shocked to see the line out the door. It's gotten so busy on some nights you should plan for 40 minutes if you are getting a delivery. It IS worth the wait. They've made ordering on line reliable and ease. To limit waiting time, order right at 5 when they open.
