“Great find for those groups/kids with dogs; Escape inland county heat”

Let's make it simple. I am reviewing this as a dog -owner AND father of young children If you have either, you should consider going to Fiesta Island to relax on a warm summer afternoon. If you have both, you definitely need to add this to your repertoire of easy things to do. There is enough space that you can enjoy the place with your kids without everyone else's dog getting up in your business, yet there are enough dogs that you can find company for Fido with ease.

Pros
-Central access for pretty much the entire county
-ample free (so long as no major event such as Over The Line)
-park where you want: you never have to walk far to your car... with miles of shoreline, there is plenty of room for all. If you want to be near a lot of dogs and a big group, you can find it If not, you can find seclusion as well.
-Plenty of shoreline that is away from the road so that you don't have to worry about the kids too much
-bring your bikes- a great way to get around the island
-if you go near Stony point, you can get away from the road in case your dog strays a bit
-In general, a cleaner beach that OB dog beach
-responsible dog owners good about picking up waste
-on the same note, probably very few unhealthy dogs at the beach
-more dogs here are fixed than at OB
-unlike at Del Mar dog beach, owners here are okay with the dogs having all sorts of fun (I have yet to encounter a snob telling me to make my dog leave their dog alone)
-if your kids like boats, they will get to see all sorts of them running around, some with wake boarders or water-skiers
-you can have bonfires on the beach
-you can set up a ten (for shade) or portable shade to give you some shelter from the sun

Cons
-no convenient place to rinse off before you get back in your car
-if you gotta go, you are limited to a few portapotties
-no food available for purchase
-no water available - so bring some for Fido (and more for him to share with his friends)
-technically you are not to swim off of the beaches of Fiesta Island

Fiesta Island is my favorite way to beat the inland county heat we get in August. Once the house becomes intolerable, we head down. Stay as late as we can before the kids get restless, hit Mission Beach for a burrito on the way home, and once we are home, slip into our pool to get rid of the feeling you have from wearing sunscreen and being at the beach

Had a wonderful day with my dogs at the dog beaches on Fiesta Island. We actually had an entire beach area to ourself. So our dogs got to run and play. Beach was clean. Seems there are very responsible owners that bring their dogs to the island.

On Fiesta Island is a dog leash free area. This is one of the best places to bring your dog!!! It has acres of land, sand, and water for Fido to get his exercise and for you to get your fresh air and exercise too!!!

It is not that I don't like Fiesta Island- there are just so many other nicer places in San Diego. Be aware that there are really no facilities on the Inland and it is pretty much all dirt. Not the best America's Finest City has to offer when it comes to beaches.

Fiesta Island is a great place for Bon Fires on the beach. There are plenty of Fire Pits which provide for great Sunset Views and during the holidays, you also get views of the Sea World Christmas Tree all lit up. Since my kids grew up in Denver, this was a great treat for them and they both 12 and 22 highly enjoyed the evening with family. Before dark the kids searched for sea shells while the adults had time to visit with each other and catch up on life. Once nightfall fell, the marshmellows were melting and smores were being made and eaten by all. It was very quiet and we were not bothered by anyone. They don't allow glass on the beach, but again no one came by and checked on us. It was like our own private beach and Bon Fire. There is no fee to get onto the area and you can buy wood from local area stores and gas stations. If you are looking for inexpensive enjoyable down time away from the parks and shopping while on vacation in San Diego, I would recommend this to anyone.
