“Best service with kids.”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

We stayed with our 5 year old and 3 year old with the family movie night package. The service was unbelievable. They even brought cookies and milk at night and gave each of the kids backpacks with activities. The view from the room was great too. It is right next to the stadium, the gas lamp district, and walking distance (15 min or so walk) to sea port village, the Midway, and whale watching trips. I would stay at this hotel again and again and based on this experience we will be staying at the Omni more.
The only negative was the restaurant (Mccormick and Schmicks). We ate there for breakfast (it was included with our package) and it was the slowest service ever. I think there were 2 waiters for the entire packed restaurant. It was very frustrating.

The Omni was an excellent hotel with a great location for eating, shopping and baseball! The staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful! The room we had was very nice but noisy late at night, due to surrounding hotels and cafes. Thanks for free Valet Parking. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank Amy Vuong for picking up Hamy's skirt

Room Tip: Choose the lagoon view from the floor 20 and up.

We really had negative experience here with the level of noise from trains, hard mattresses, poor view, lack of amenities, etc... The surprise "incidental" expense per room, did not help our attitude when we checked in late on the first night either.

Dear Joan N.,
Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor and thank you for your response on internal guest satisfaction survey. I am very sorry that you were displeased with your experience and that the incidental fee was not more clearly explained at check-in. For all guests paying with a debit card, we are required to hold $75 per night to cover incidental charges such as parking, room service, movies, phone charges, restaurant charges, coffee shop, laundry, etc. If none of these services are used, the "hold" is released and the funds are returned to the bank account within 4-7 business days.
I have also sent an email to your personal email. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Again, thank you for your feedback.
Sincerely,
Colleen Anderson

The hotel is beautiful, ideally located, and has a great staff. The big issue is the quality of sleep while staying there. The rooms are not well insulated so you can hear the rooms above and next to you quite a bit. The night we stayed there we had to deal with a large party on our floor until 7am. We were given a full refund.

Dear Ryan R.,
Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. I am very sorry to hear that you had a restless night due to noise within the hotel. We did do our best to limit late night activity over the New Year's Eve period and apologize you were affected by noisy neighbors.
Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Just returned from a 2 night stay. Cab ride is about $12. I arrived at 10AM, but I was able to check in and refresh before going to get brunch. Check in was easy and quick. Had a room on the 5th floor on the convention side. There was some construction on that side in the day, so it was not a big deal, but I did notice that there was ear plugs in the drawer, so they get points for thinking about the details, right? Comfortable bed, big TV, plenty of space in the drawers and closet. Stayed on the 5th floor, so I had a large sliding door to the balcony. it was nice to open and let some fresh ocean air in.

The Trolly stop is right across the st., so you can almost go anywhere.

The bathroom was spacious and very nice. The one thing that some very private folks might not like is that there are shutter type of closures that you can open to get some natural light from the large wall of window. These face the bed. They close tight to have some privacy, but just a heads up. The door to the bathroom are 2 larger roller doors. So if you are sharing a with someone, These details might be odd at times if you are in the restroom.

Classic Omni service. Of course I will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to have better views. Consider the 5th floor to have a sliding glass balcony.

Disclaimer, before I write my review. I work for a competing hotel company. The Omni is one of my favorite hotels in San Diego. If you want to be close to the downtown action, the location cannot be beat. My room was spotless with a great view of the harbor. I did notice the sink was clogged. I called the front desk and told them I was leaving the room for a bit and asked if they could fix it while I was gone. Upon my return the sink was back in working in perfect working order. Great service! Folks complain about the valet parking costs ($39); however this is the standard rate for valet in San Diego. If you pre-pay when you make your reservation you can save almost $10 a day. My only issues this stay were very little hot water two of the mornings and an ID check policy at the front door on New Year's Eve. I know security is important; however they could have handled this process with a lot more class. Standing in line at 1am to add your wife to the room, was a bit excessive. One of the nights we did have late night room service and the food was actually very good.

We couldn't have asked for a better respite from our hectic lives. The quality of the hotel, combined with the service was first rate. The location was perfect - on the edge of the Gaslamp district, yet still far enough away from the madness. This was my second stay at The Omni and I see no reason to ever stay anywhere else when visiting San Diego.
