The best part of this hotel is its location. Next to the ball park, convention center, and good eats. The rack rate for this hotel was $249- so you really are paying for the location and the comfortable environment. For a business traveler, it was a great place to stay. For the young party crowd, you are probably better off at the Hard Rock across the street.

Pros
-The hotel actually connects to the ball park, is across from the convention center, and in the Gaslamp.
-Parking garage located right next door.
-Big comfortable rooms with separate Shower and tub.
-McCormick and Schmick located on the first floor. It has a decent happy hour.

Cons
-Parking is $35 a night.
-$9.95 per day for Wifi
-It is 2012- Time for a flatscreen TV.

Tips
-You can park next door in the structure- We paid about $18 for overnight.
-Try to get a view on the higher level. We only had a side view of the ball park which wasn't much.

The breathtaking view was (pleasurably) distracting and entrancing. Walk to the Convention Center in about 2 minutes & walk across a bridge to Petco Park. The Gaslamp District with all it's restaurants & bars is handy but Friday night seems when the 20-something locals hit it in droves.
Good service throughout the hotel, pricey valet parking. Negatives? Odd frosted glass sliding door into bath may bother some friends sharing a room as it is less private than a solid door. Asian-style bathroom shelving makes it a bit awkward to find a handy spot to use the coffee maker. In order to get the view, you'll be on the side of the building which also overlooks the trolley, so there'll be some sounds. If you need quiet, tell the check-in desk and ask for the side away from Harbor Blvd.

Room Tip: Higher floors get a terrific harbor-side view if you ask for it. You can have view or quiet, not bo...

I really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Omni. When we arrived and during our stay, we were not disappointed once. The lobby is very stylish and inviting, and the service was excellent. We were always greeted with friendly smiles by any of the staff members. Our room was wonderful! I love the wood floors, and everything was immaculate.

The Omni experience is usually pretty good, and this hotel lives up to the standard of the chain. The hotel is modern, stylish and has a solid feeling of quality all around. The rooms are standard size, well appointed and have great bathrooms with fabulous showers (no tubs in our standard room type). We were staying with our child, so we opted for the two beds/room option. Unfortunately, the Omni uses doubles rather than queens, so the sleeping arrangements were tight for my wife and I. The comment in the title of this review refers to the horrific location of the Omni immediately next to the railroad tracks. Each train (and there are MANY on a daily basis) sounds its horn repeately as it approaches each intersection (and there are MANY intersections), so be prepared to hear a series of loud horn blasts roughly every 30 minutes in the evening and night hours - apparently sounding the horn is not obligatory during the daytime. The hotel actually provides two free pairs of earplugs in the nightstand drawer, anticipating that you will need them! The concierge said the city is working on making the Gaslamp District a quiet zone for rail traffic, but who knows when that will be enacted (if ever). To be fair, not only the Omni suffers from this noise issue - about 80% of the hotels in the area of the convention center are adjacent to the tracks. So be prepared for a bad nights sleep unless you can ignore a freight train passing within 20 yards of the hotel!

The restaurant of the hotel was quite good for both breakfast and dinner, and in our opinions reasonably priced for the quality. The staff was attentive, courteous and helpful. Overall the Omni experience met our expectations, with the only detraction being the proximity to the tracks. I dont think a better option exists in the area, so enjoy the hotel, and utilize your complimentary earplugs!

Dear "bmarkhasin,"

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit a Trip Advisor review after your recent stay. I was pleased to hear your overall impressions of our property were positive but very disappointed your stay was negatively impacted by noise from train horns. Please accept my apologies for not delivering the 5-star experience you had anticipated.

Our neighbors and we here at the Omni are very much looking forward to a “Quiet Zone” ordinance going into effect in late Spring which will reduce train horn noise significantly for the entire downtown area. It has taken the community several years to get to where we are and I can assure you we, along with many other business leaders in the downtown area, will welcome the noise restrictions this ordinance will put in place.

Thank you very much for choosing the Omni San Diego Hotel. We're hopeful of another opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to an excellent experience all around. Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have additional feedback, requests, or concerns.

Sincerely,

Thomas Kermabon

Stayed in a jr suite for a business trip recently. The hotel is perfectly located next to the trolly stop and right across from the San Diego Convention Center.

The staff really stood out here, everyone I spoke to was incredibly nice and helpful. The pool bar is a great place to hang out and have a quick drink.

You can also walk to any restaurant downtown, I recommend Oceanair for some great seafood.

I get to San Diego several times a year on business, and although I have tried the Manchester Grand, the Courtyard by Marriott(6th & Bdwy),and the Westin(Horton Plaza), I seem to always be more satisfied with the Omni. It's just an easier experience. Expedited checkin, usually get a room on a high floor with a great bay view, the room is clean and functional without too much froo froo,, and good enough acess and egress to the freeway. I especially like the fact that I can park myself overnight at the municipal lot just across the street from the entrance and pay $10, vs $33 at the Courtyard, about $25 at the Manchester, or $40 according to the sign in front of the Solimar. It is at the Southeast corner of the Gaslamp district, so you can walk a block or two in the action without having to put up with the noise or congestion of being right in the middle of it.

Room Tip: High room on the bay side vs. city side.

We have stayed in San Diego many times at various hotels and this was our best experience thus far. We were greeted in a friendly manner at the front desk, checked in and out quickly, and all the staff was genuinely friendly, including housekeeping. We stayed over on a Sunday night so that may have made a difference, but it was quiet, and we slept well in the very comfy beds. The location can't be beat, close to everything downtown. Our room overlooked the convention center and had a beautiful view of the bay. I also loved the very plush towels in the bathroom, a rarity in hotels these days. The other reviewer's suggestion about the parking is a good one, as $35 is a little high for valet parking and there is parking available across the street. Will definitely stay here again.
