“Decent hotel for the price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2014

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days during Spring Break. We were shocked at how small the rooms were because we have stayed at a lot of LaQuinta's and this was the smallest. I picked this hotel because of the location and the free breakfast. The hotel is not that far from the airport, Old Town San Diego, Sea World, and Mission Beach. There are a lot of eating places and a nice shopping center within one mile of the hotel. If you don't plan on being in your room that much, than it's ok.

The hotel itself was very nice. Front desk was very friendly. The rooms were very clean and roomy. Ours was a little musty but not too bad. The location was good, not near beach but ok. If you're familiar with San Diego, it's on Hotel Circle. The breakfast was nice (no eggs), I just wish it had yogurt included. The internet was slow and tv reception was not great. One negative was the pool and hot tub was not crystal clear like I like. My biggest complaint was paying $8 a night to park!!!!!!

We chose La Quinta because we were traveling with our dog (no fee at La Quinta) and the price was good and it was centrally located.

At check-in we were upgraded to a king suite for some reason (not going to complain about that!). It wasn't huge, but quite adequate. We liked having a mini-fridge. Room was on the third floor, which meant hauling everything up to the top, but it also meant no one above us.

My biggest complaint with hotels is noise, and I didn't hear anyone while we were there. Hallelujah!

Other good things: bed was comfortable, shower was nice, staff was pleasant.

Negatives: only a small area for animals to do business, which thankfully was on our side of the property, and it is also where people have to go when they smoke. Once I had to go somewhere else to get away from the smoke stench; continental breakfast was crowded and not worth it. It was easier to go to McDonalds; housekeeping didn't always leave fresh towels or shampoo.

In the end I enjoyed our stay and would go back. Location was great and price was good!

Our first room was so damp and mildewy we all woke up with headaches and stuffy noses. We switched to a new room which was a major improvement on the smell. The second room also felt a little damp. I think the problem is the lack of proper ventilation in the bathrooms. Everything near the bathroom gets damp because the bathroom turns into a sauna. I love a hot hot hot shower but the shower in both rooms was unpleasantly warm, unless I left the door open. That said, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The water didn't taste bad. Location wise it was perfect. There's a large shopping center across the highway, with a Target, coffee places, Trader Joe's, restaurants, etc. The zoo is just a few minutes away. For the price, I could have gotten a better, cleaner room somewhere else (especially when considering the fee to park).

This place reminds me of the cheap motels which used to be the only choice. Located next to a busy highway, no view, musty rooms, ran short of towels, tissue, room cleaners and breakfast. Not enough maid staff or laundry equipment (for them to keep up). Breakfast area was too small and packed with people. The coffee came in pre-made packets and it was watery. Nice food across the busy highway crossing about 1/4 walk. Trolly is over there too. Prices are high for what you get.

We stayed at the Mission Valley La Quinta for 7 nights while we were in the process of moving. We always stay at La Quinta due to the pet policy and our dog, so we didn't think twice about it. Unfortunately, this one wasn't up to other La Quinta standards. First, upon check-in I was informed of an 8 dollar per night parking fee, which was not advertised to me in any way prior to booking. I asked for it to be waived due to our length of stay and they would only lower the cost to 5 dollars a night. Rooms for guests with pets are on the first floor, which is fine, but not every person is responsible with their animals and left them in the room while they would go out, leaving barking dogs unattended. The breakfast didn't include any usual La Quinta items like eggs, bacon, potatoes, etc, but it was okay and sufficient. Our big issue was with the customer service. Not only would they not waive our parking fee, but one morning around 10:30 am the wi-fi stopped working. I alerted the front desk and they tried resetting the router, but it didn't work. It was still out that evening around 10 pm, so we called back and the young man working spoke to us like we just didn't know how to turn on our devices correctly. We decided to call AT&T uverse about the outage and they confirmed it was out in guest rooms. We called the front desk again in the morning after it had been 24 hours of no free wi-fi as advertised and advised them what AT&T told us and finally someone reset all their equipment and it worked again. I did not appreciate the nature in which I was treated during the ordeal, and felt like my money and time wasn't valued. On a positive note, this hotel is in a great location to proximity to food, shopping, beach, zoo, sea world, etc.
