If you are traveling with a dog this is the hotel that is soooooooooooooo pet friendly. They not only allow pets in the room they have the back of the property fenced so that at night all you need to do is open the patio door and let your pet out to do his thing. If you are visiting Dog Beach you are just steps away from the beach and the hotel provides dog towels, a dog wash, dog treats, you get the picture. The hotel is conveniently located to many restaurants and shops that are dog friendly as well. To all those folks who whined about the hotel having sand on the floor, pet hair and a dampness/musty smell, I have this to say to you--You are not a real ocean lover, pet lover or beach lover-don't go to Dog Beach, go somewhere you don't have to go in the sand or near the ocean, better still stay at home and enjoy the ocean by picts on you computer. I would recommend this hotel over any that I have stayed in in San Diego because I love my dog and he is a real member of my family and travels with us. This hotel welcomes ALL members of your family.

Our dog loved staying here, I wish we could say the same for ourselves. The beds were terribly uncomfortable, and we kept waking up to other dogs barking and planes taking off. There were some really sketchy characters roaming around the parking lot, too. On a positive note - the staff was very friendly, and free wifi! Pay the extra $ don't stay in Ocean Beach, you'll be much happier elsewhere!

This is our fourth trip visiting from Orange County, CA. Although the hotel is not a 5 star hotel, the proximity to dog beach makes up the difference. If you don't have any dogs, the other side of the dog beach is also fantastic. Our party consisted of two adults and three dogs in a room with two either double or queen size beds. There's a mini frig, microwave, coffee maker and doggy bags inside the room. The tile floors worked well with all the sand brought in by our dogs. There's an open patio off the rooms downstairs and private balconies for the rooms upstairs. Off the patio there's a fenced area for the dogs to roam. There's a continental breakfast which includes cereal, toast, muffins, eggs, sausage, cinnamon toast, coffee and juices. The person at the front desk was extremely cheerful and had remembered me from my last visit two years prior. If you're into outdoor exercising, there are alot of people either walking, jogging, or biking on the path adjacent to the hotel. There's also a variety of eating places either near the hotel or at the main area of Ocean Beach. The front desk person recommended Chris' liquor store for sandwiches located approx. 5 blocks from the hotel. This place uses Boar's Head meats. The sandwiches were very delicious and the staff was very friendly. If you don't want to stay in a fancy hotel but want to be close to the Pacific Ocean, with or without dogs, this hotel could be a great choice.

This was our 4th stay at Ocean Villa Inn. You can't beat the proximately to the dog beach but the motel itself leaves a lot to be desired. The motel itself is very dated. The rooms are sorely in need of remodeling and the walls are thin. We also found the floor and the bedding covered with a thin layer of sand. Spend a few more dollars and stay at the Shorebreak in Huntington Beach. Granted, it's not within walking distance of the dog beach, but it's a LOT nicer.

Ocean Villa Inn is the best place I've found for staying close to the beach with my dog at a reasonable price. You just can't beat having an off-leash dog beach, a beach for people without dogs, and restaurants and shops within walking distance. The hotel staff is friendly and the rooms with patios and access to the grassy dog play area are wonderful.

I go there 4 times a year with my dogs. It is a wonderful place to stay and allow my dogs to run without a leash. The service is friendly, rooms are clean and quiet.

We loved our stay here last summer. I was just trying to book it again and no rooms are available, so decided I should at least let others know how much we'd liked our stay. We had 3 separate rooms - 2 connected on the upper floor and 1 below. The upper room patios were so comfortable to hang out on, watch the ocean sunsets and the fun on Dog Beach, and the 2 connected rooms had a nice couch/seating area that everyone was able to hang out in. The staff, while extremely busy, were also extremely friendly and handled any request asked of them. Ocean Beach is not necessarily what some would expect from San Diego and to us that was just great. The majority of the members of our party live in suburban San Diego and they really enjoyed the different atmosphere in their own city. my partner and I are from San Francisco, so Ocean Beach was surprisingly like home, just warmer, beachier - more like Santa Cruz than San Diego. Great authentic restaurant and shopping experiences abound in the 'hood. If you can't feel comfortable on a real urban beach with real people who are not all the same, better stay away from Ocean Beach in general, not just this hotel. We loved the mix of cultures and experiences in OB.
