“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay...”
Reviewed May 26, 2009

Maybe not for travelers who are too picky or demanding, but WE thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ocean Villa Inn in early May! Suited us perfectly. Great location next door to Dog Beach. The Ocean Beach community is definitely funky and laid-back - also colorful, lively and friendly. Our rooms were spacious and clean; liked the patio, open view beyond, and screened sliding door for letting in surf sounds and sea breeze. Also the warm-water dog wash! The staff was very accommodating and helpful, especially Kelly & Josh - even Skip, the plant caretaker. Breakfast is minimal; the guest above us one night was noisy; the shower plumbing in #14 could stand renovating (underway?) - but the sandy floor, which another reviewer complained about, is just a fact of beach life. We stayed 4 nights, then cancelled reservations elsewhere and came back for 3 more. A few guests could be more conscientious about picking up after their dogs (and limiting access to their food bowls!); all, however, were very pleasant, having as much fun as we were, and many said they were repeat customers. We hope to join their ranks.

have stayed at this place twice a year for the last 5 years, only because of the dogs. there has always been a problem with the rooms. this time the room smelled of urine, recepticles hanging from the ceiling, shower and sink backed-up, rust and mold everywhere. arrived on a sunday and was promised a new room monday morning, monday morning was promised a new room again as soon as they were cleaned, nothing ever happened, when i complained to the assistent manager she called the police and had me, my wiife & dogs thrown out. i'm 74 years old and traveled 200 miles to stay at this hole. how do you like those apples!

We planned a weekend and only stayed one night. The wi fi did not work the pool was not heated and it was full of dog waste, homeless, gang members.hippies and lower end yuppies wanting to brag about living by the sea. This place was the worst. don't believe the other stuff written here if you dont have a pet or really really love them then stay away. It was like being in a fallout 3 mod.

My fiancee and I stayed here with our 2 dogs for 4 days and it was a great experience. We travel everywhere with our dogs and this was the most dog friendly hotel we have ever been too. The staff was awsome. The dog beach is right behind the hotel, there is a dog run right out your hotel room patio door, and the community of Ocean Beach is VERY dog friendly. Every restaraunt we went to allowed dogs on the patio with you, brought out water for the dogs, and some even had dog menu's! Usually we stay in La Jolla, or PB when we go to San Diego and we are sneaking our dogs around everywhere, can't bring them on the beach with us etc...It was awsome. Only complaints I have is there are 2 buildings and the dog run behind them is not seperated and your dogs can run out of sight to the next building and then there is the people who don't pick up after their dogs or leave their dogs out in the run ALL DAY so if you just want to let your dog out to do his business and be done its difficult. Let the staff know about a man with 2 aggressive sheppards that was doing this and the staff took care of it within 10 minutes. If your dogs are aggressive DON"T BRING THEM TOO AN OFFLEASH AREA!!! KEEP THEM ON A LEASH!!! USE COMMON SENSE PLEASE, Breakfast, not so good but what do you expect for 100-130 bucks a night on the beach? Apple's, Oranges, Toast, Bagel, and cold cereal. Rooms were big, didn't feel crowded at all with 2 adults and 2 75lb dogs. I will be back again soon...

The location is the main selling point- right on dog beach- which is the main reason for our stay, we brought the dog. The rooms are basic, pretty clean but I wouldn't call them spotless but when traveling with a dog clean is good enough. The staff are friendly and accommodating- forgot a can opener and the staff cheerfully opened our cans in the office. Walking distance to the main street and restaurants, shops, etc. Prices are a good value.

This hotel was in the best location possible if you want to enjoy the beach or have a dog. There is a fee of $25.00 per dog but the location, amenities for dogs and staff make it worth it. You will find no better location as the backyard is literally a leash free dog beach where you can play and swim with your dog. The hotel is not posh and luxurious but it is clean and comfortable.

We picked this hotel because it welcomes dogs, is next to a dog beach and park, and it has good reviews on Trip Advisor. It's true that it is very dog friendly. All of the doggy-rooms open onto a grassy, fenced area. The hotel provides poop bags, but it looked like most of the dog owners were not aware of doggy etiquette: pick up after your dog! The poop is everywhere, in every size, shape and form. Apparently, most people were taking a vacation from poop-duty. That is my chief complaint. Secondly, the room wasn't very clean. We couldn't walk across the floor without our feet becoming dirty on the bottom. We ended our stay early. I couldn't wait to get home.
