My friend and I stayed in one of the dog-friendly, family sized rooms. (I asked for an upgrade when I checked in and there was a larger room available.) There was plenty of room for my large dog and the bed I brought, etc. My Lab loved it. The motel is close to the dog beach (half a block of sidewalk, few hundred feet of sand). There is a large, public grass area for dog play behind the property. The motel's dog run is convenient, though there were several muddy areas. There are doggie waste bag stations everywhere. The dog shower has excellent water pressure and the front desk provides dog towels. The beds were comfortable. As others have said, some upgrading is overdue; the tub/shower was pitted and a bit rusty. If you bring a dog, you do not receive daily maid service, but they will provide it if you ask. The dog must not be there when the maid arrives. The front desk is very friendly. Ocean Beach is FULL of restaurants, many with outside seating -- several allow you to bring your dog to the patio areas. The front desk will provide a list of dog friendly restaurants. If you are able to walk a few blocks, I suggest you do so since parking is a major issue. If you like German food, Kaiserhof Restaurant is superb. Shades (dog friendly) is fairly good. Alfredo's Pizza delivers (salads, pasta, sandwiches available as well). Airport is close, but we didn't notice the planes at night. ------------ I'd go back to this motel, but only if I bring the dog.

We stayed here for one night, having originally booked in for 5 nights. The location is its best feature being in Ocean Beach, right next to the Dog Beach.

It is designed for dogs and maybe their owners. Note that we have dogs but they had to stafy in the UK. The only reason we stayed here was that it was literally the only place with vacancies in the San Diego area on a Saturday night in summer. Overall the property looked as if it has suffered with time and is in dire need of a renovation.

The rooms are simply tiled and the walls are a little grubby (but it is a glorified dog kennel in which the owners also sleep). We had to change rooms because the toilet blocked up. Although the reception staff were friendly, maintenance consisted of me being handed a toilet plunger to sort it out myself. The patio and patio furniture were very dirty and off-putting.

Great if we had had our dogs with us but they should keep a few non-doggy rooms for other guests.

We stayed at the Ocean Villa Inn in Ocean Beach, San Diego. After a week in a little casita in another part of OB, we hated to leave, so booked 3 nights at the Ocean Villa Inn, where we have stayed before. The best thing about it is the location near "Dog Beach" in Ocean Beach. You can hear the ocean if you leave the slider open. The rooms are your basic hotel rooms, shower only, but the location is good for walking in OB. Rooms are a little worn. If you are traveling with a dog, it's great. The downstairs rooms are dog friendly, the upstairs rooms are non-dog. But the view is great. You look out on the channel from Mission Bay that goes between Ocean Beach and Mission Beach, so you can see the boats going in and out. You can watch folks walking their dogs towards Dog Beach. They do have a nice pool. The Ocean Villa is close to all things OB. You can walk or drive or ride bikes. Sunshine Smoothie is about 3 blocks away. You can walk down Voltaire where there are restaurants and other businesses. The Ocean Spa on Voltaire is nice for a pedicure. The rate at Ocean Villa is reasonable. The breakfast is OK, just juice, coffee, yogurt, toast, bananas, cereal, etc. No hot food. For the best coffee, walk or drive down to Newport to Jungle Java (best lattes in OB) and breakfast at Margarita's. Go early to Newport Ave for a parking place. Other thing I liked was the room's deck which had a nice sunset view. For the best view, walk out to the beach or the pier.

Room Tip: upstairs for non-dog, downstairs for dog. Best view is upstairs in the wing towards dog beach. Like...

We all travel with different expectations of our lodgings but if you loves your furry friends enough to seek a dog-friendly haven then you have your pick with this hotel. Dog beach is your back yard, dog friendly restaurants are close, and a good pub is right down the way. No problems with the cleanliness factor, the aisles are wide so you're not right on top of the other people/pets in your room, and the staff was helpful. I wouldn't hire their decorator for my home but since aesthetics aren't my top priority when I'm on a short vacation, it's a negligible issue. For a trip to SD with my favorite pooch, I couldn't have found a better place to stay.

This hotel does not have all of the amenities, but the dogs love it. To start with with I will list the pros:

The dog beach is right there;
They cater to dogs;
When you book the deluxe room the shared dog run is great. You can wake up at noight and let the dogs out easily.

Cons:
The rooms are outdated and yes, you can hear noises from the neighbors and upstairs people;
In the common dog run, some of the owners are not as observant as others;
A little over priced for the rooms, but it is right on the beach.

Our room did not have any washcloths or face towels and had two very mediocre bath towels.

Overall, if you want a place that caters to your four legged babies, and want easy access to the dog beach, then this is the place for you. Our two babies loved it here.

Great place to stay with your pup...definitely not luxury, but staff is very attentive and personable. Our first assigned room reeked of stale smoke, and it was supposed to be non-smoking. We asked to be relocated and were moved to a studio room without a patio and yard, but it met our needs. Area is quiet except for airport comings and goings, but that did not disrupt our sleep.

Tile floors in room left our barefeet black.The foyer of the bathroom has chunks out of the wall where dogs have left their "mark" and the paint and drywall has fallen off. We requested that our room be cleaned, and it was fresh and sparkling when we returned.

The inn would benefit greatly from an annual maintenance...paint, new bedding and linens. Breakfast offering was fine, it included hard-cooked eggs, thin bagels and other breads, oatmeal, dry cereal, fruit, mini-muffins, and coffee or tea.

Right next to "Dog Beach"., a couple blocks away from downtown Ocean Beach, and within 10 minutes of Mission Beach parks and activities. Cost of room is commensurate with others in the general area, mostly because of its being pet-friendly.

If you're seeking a pet-friendly lodging without the frills, the Ocean Villa Inn is a good value.

Let me start by saying that if you're expecting a "Hilton" experience you won't get it with this hotel - BUT THAT'S NOT A BAD THING! This hotel is for dog lovers who want to take them on vacation with the family. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly. It's less than a 5 minute walk to Dog Beach, and if you get a "dog" room on the ground floor, these rooms open up to a fenced in area, so you don't have to keep your dog cooped up in the room until you're ready to go. The hotel serves a small (free) continental breakfast and you can arrange to get maid service for the dog rooms - but - the dogs cannot be in the room. There are a few restaurants in the area that accept dogs (Shades and O'Bistro were my favorites) and they even supply water and dog biscuits. At Shades, you can actually buy a doggie dinner for your pooch!
