Stayed here three nights in February 2013. Hotel is an older propery that has been well-maintained. The hotel is located in the Old Town section of San Diego, and near the MCRD (Marine Corps Recruiting Depot). There are a LOT of restaurants within easy walking distance. Many restaurants are Mexican-themed. Ate at a happening restaurant named Cafe Coyote 2 minutes by foot from the hotel. I parked in the garage beneath the hotel for convenience. Reception staff were excellent. Parking fee is $15/day. There was parking on the street otherwise. My room had a microwave and a dorm-size refrigerator. A 40" flat-screen Samsung TV was mounted on the wall. A reasonable size work desk with ample power outlets is positioned near the outside wall. Internet was reliable and fast enough, and free. Bathroom was adequate but a bit cozy. Standard hotel toiletries were provided. Workout room with aerobic equipment was good. All equipment worked. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate. Cereal, bagels, muffin, yogurt, fresh fruit and some breakfast sandwiches are food options. The hotel is close the airport. A free shuttle is provided on the hour. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the interior courtyard for quieter stay.

This is a great property. We loved the courtyard feel, and yet you felt secure because the rooms are in locked hallways. The property was quiet and very well maintained. The room was very clean, and even had a refrigerator and microwave. The breakfast was better than the typical Fairfield breakfast--we found much to choose from and enjoy, and the breakfast room was very pleasant, with lots of windows. The lobby area was also nice, and the staff helpful. The only "negative" I could report is that they require you to pay for their parking structure. However, because it was low season, we found no trouble parking on the street. Great location. Would go back.

This was a nice reasonable priced alternative in San Diego. Close to anything you want to do.

Pros: Nice size room and bathroom. Good internet. Decent breakfast. Friendly Staff

Cons: Odd layout with various outside walkways and doors into corridors where rooms are. Not bad once you learn the system just a bit confusing at first.

There were about 20 of us staying at this hotel in Dec 2012. We were there for our grandson's graduation from Marine boot camp. The rooms were clean the location is great. Walking distance to Old Towne and all the restaruants.
The staff was very accommodating. We had to rent scooters for a couple of people. They stored and loaded them to go to the MCDC.
Highly reccommend!

This hotel has been many things over the years. First the "Mission Inn Old Town", then a "Holiday Inn Express". When we arrived, they had just finished transitioning from a Holiday Inn Express to a Fairfield, and in fact we selected this place based on previous experiences at a Fairfield (albeit a brand new one). The room we were in was quite dark, despite having two windows, and a little musty. It was also a little cramped, with very low ceilings, though I understand the building is supposed to have a "mission" feel to it. The parking garage is also very small, and full of SUVs taking up 2 parking spaces. San Diego Avenue (which our room backed on to) was a bit noisy, particularly with lots of Harleys.

That's not to say it was all bad -- the TV, bed, furnishings, bathroom, fridge, and microwave were all up to Fairfield standards, as was the complimentary breakfast but the room really took away from it.

The customer service, however, was also up to Fairfield standards. We received notice on the second night that the local utility was going to shut off power for about 8 hours (midnight-8am) for some transformer maintenance. The hotel was offering to put up people in the Marriott Courtyard down the street at the same rate. We took advantage of this offer (because we are generally early risers, and didn't want to get up and find we were unable to shower), and everything went smoothly. The Courtyard itself is a much nicer property, their rack rate is cheaper, and their staff are just as nice.

I like to stay at Marriot hotels in general, because they are good value for money. The hotel is very well located in the Old Town, with easy access to the I5, point loma, the trolley, nice restaurants etc. The rooms are what you would expect from the Marriot, they are good size, nice and clean. However the service in this hotel was really poor.

I had to make my reservation broken in three different ones (through Expedia and the Marriot website); that of course is not the hotel fault. I explained on check-in the way I had done my reservation and asked them to make sure that I was checked all the way through (10 days). Despite this, I had to go to the reception 3 times because my room key stopped working and the staff was less than friendly. Also, the time in general to speak to someone at reception was at least 5 minutes.

In summary, good hotel, good location but poor service.

The hotel was in a great location for our soccer tournament as well as attending the Women's NCAA final 4 soccer championships at USD. It is walking distance to all of the old town shops and restaurants. The decor is great and the staff were incredibly accommodating. Easy freeway access makes this an ideal place. We will most definitely book this hotel again for our soccer team travels.
