Day break island grill
Had just finished a long day of a beach volleyball tournament decided to try one of the local joints this place is on the corner of the street down point Loma the food was not made to what the menu said, the service was horrible, the prices were too high and it cost 3.50$ for a refill on any drink other than water. We were the only ones there (that should have told us something)on a Sunday afternoon and it took 25 min to get our order and it was wrong.

(Imagine the narrator voice as an angry Anthony Bourdain) I'm through there frequently (since 1996): Overwhelming stench of urine, and occasional pile of human faeces to dodge if you have to walk down Newport Street, punctuated by the wafting smell of weed. Watch your step down by the shore. The homeless have invaded and are never leaving. I once saw a 20 something year old kid doing something I can't describe here, to a large stuffed bear down by the pier with families walking by. Sad, this place was probably a beautiful little community once. A lot of the help at the local eats are lazy, and work just enough to get paid. So many potheads. I've never seen so many able bodied men and women begging for money in my life. If you're from out of town, and are looking for the California Beach experience, stay away. Pay the extra money. There are many nice places here, this ain't one them. Even Imperial Beach beats this place, and they have a regular problem with TJ dumping raw sewage onto their beach. The truth is often abrasive, deal with it.

You get off the freeway fast to get here. This is more of the flat areas. Go south to Mexico, the beaches are a bit rougher in that area. A bit of rocks jet's out of the water to the North of this area too.

We went on a Wednesday where they have food trucks and other stands set up. Decent prices and very entertaining people watching.

Pretty, clean, smaller SD area beach. Plenty of beach boutiques and restaurants.

Appears to have nicer beach house rentals. Quiet streets. Has a fun farmers market on Wednesday nights.

I spent a month in the san diego area with my 4 young kids and tried to go to as many beaches as possible. This was the second we went to and the one that the kids kept asking to go to again.

Exploding population of homeless at every corner, all over the beach and grass areas. Want to sit on a table, forget it, a homeless person sleeping. Want to use the public beach restroom, good luck, toilets backed up, filthy and another homeless person using drugs. Some days accosted by the same homeless person 3-4 times. Very aggressive and abusive. Fear for safety or disease from an encounter. Been vacationing here on and off for 30 years but never again.
